Ophelia had not gotten much alone time with Dirk lately with his business booming, so when she found a few moments to drag him away from the library, she jumped on the idea. She headed up to the seventh floor with the food and drinks she had grabbed from the kitchens, waiting for him to meet up with her. She had already planned out what they were going to do. A massage for him, some cuddles, and talking. Probably some kissing too, she had missed that, and they had not had much time to be without huge crowds and she was grateful for a few stolen moments.
As soon as she saw him coming, her eyes lit up and she threw her arms around him, holding him close for a moment. “I’m so glad we are going to actually have time together!”
Dirk was glad that the tournament was over. He was usually busy enough after a Slytherin quidditch game, which tended to have a lot more side bets about fouls and injuries than other houses. But this game had also been the one to decide the Quidditch cup, and the end of the season, so there had been a lot more payouts to make for that reason. That it was followed immediately by the Dueling Tournament, which had more interest than the one earlier in the year care of a few high-profile matches in the first couple of days. Dirk had hardly done any school work all week as he worked to keep up with the betting. The good news was that he’d made enough profit to pay for his incidentals for the next year, and enough to start saving for an apartment after he finished at Hogwarts.
Tonight, he was grateful for an invitation to not be in the library and for the opportunity to spend some private time with Ophelia. He’d seen her a lot this week as she helped him with his business, but they had to act like friends only for the entire time. ‘We saw each other all week.” He teased, but he was happy to have her greet him by throwing her arms around him. He’d felt challenged all week by the eyes on them.
“All week. With books. And numbers. Have I ever told you how much I hate numbers?” Ophelia laughed softly and tiptoed to brush her lips over his before squeezing his hand lightly. Her eyes flicked toward the door she had brought into being before he got there and she motioned to it with one hand. “Should we go in? I think we need some time together that’s not in the library, and I believe you need something relaxing to close out your week. You worked so hard all week with the tournament that I don’t even think you took a second to breathe, much less do anything nice.”
“I think you mentioned it once or twice between people.” For Dirk, numbers made sense, they were just another language, and he enjoyed them. He wouldn’t have gotten into the business he had if he didn’t like them. It had grown far beyond what he’d planned initially, but he’d never pictured going more than a little Quidditch betting when he started it. Of course he hadn’t pictured a lot of things in his life, like Ophelia. He smiled at her, and followed her into the room. “You worked hard too, I appreciate all your help, especially since you don’t like books and numbers like I do.I’d probably still be in the library now, and tomorrow too just trying to get through everything from the tournament without your help.” He paused to look at her earnestly, “Thank you.” He said simply.
After his thank you, she shook her head a tiny bit. “You don’t have to thank me, Dirk. I’m your girlfriend, it’s my job to be helpful sometimes. Now take your shirt off and lay on your stomach.” She offered a teasing smile and pushed him toward the bed playfully, waiting for him to follow her instructions. She picked up the massage oil she had thrown together and uncorked the vial, putting a little bit on her hands. With her skill in potions, she had solved a way to infuse the elements of a calming potion into the oil, though it had taken a great deal of time, and she smiled a little bit, waiting for him to get comfortable before she started to rub his back.
His ears tipped red as she bossed him around, but he complied. He walked towards the bed after her push, unbuttoning his shirt as he moved. He trusted her, but was still nervous about what she was going to do to him. “I do have to thank you.” He liked that she called herself his girlfriend, and couldn’t help but smile a little at that word. “I want to I mean.” He corrected himself. He wasn’t thanking her because it was an obligation, but he wanted to know he was glad for her help.
Ophelia smiled slightly when he settled on the bed and climbed on next to him, straddling his waist and rubbing her hands together to warm them some before starting to massage his shoulders. She did not want to do anything really but help him relax, and she was happy that she knew how to offer that.
“Oh umm.” Dirk exclaimed as Ophelia settled on him. It wasn’t that he minded - he liked the feeling quite a bit actually, but he hadn’t expected her to straddle him. He felt rather self-conscious about how much he liked it really. And then she was touching him, and it was innocent, her hands sliding over his shoulders but still she was touching him and he liked when she touched him quite a bit actually.
“You need some relaxation time. You work so hard.” Ophelia wanted to tell him he did not have to, since she would have money after this year, more than she would ever really need, but men had pride and she knew that, so anything she gave? She would make sure it was subtle. Bets lost because she knew something? That was okay. Handing him galleons, not as much.
“You worked hard with me,” Dirk was quick to give her credit. He’d never had anyone volunteer to work with him before. Okay he had, but they were students trying to get out of their debts, not someone who was just volunteering. Even the few hours Ophelia spent with him in the library in the evenings made a difference, allowing him to focus a little more on the odds and balancing his books. And he’d been able to see her and spent time with her all week, which had been quite a nice thing too. Just like the way her hands were moving on his body…
“Not nearly as hard, and unlike you, I was able to leave once in a while to go get things to eat and all.” Ophelia had brought him snacks, obviously, but he was so busy that she had noticed him doing work even during meals. It had to suck, but she knew he needed to have the work and the income, so she just tried to do her best to make it easier on him while she could. Her hands continued to move over his shoulders for a few moments before moving down his back a little, working to loosen all his muscles.
“It was just a lot in a short time - with the Tournament happening right after the Quidditch cup like that.” Dirk was relaxing under her hands - although he was still incredibly aware of her. He felt every time she shifted her weight as she leaned into her hands, and of course he felt every place her hands went on her back. “And it was good, just… busy.” Dirk tried to reassure her.
“It was, but if you ever need the help again, I am willing to offer it. I mean, I am not that great with everything you were doing, but I can manage the money part. I’m going to have to learn to do that once I come of age anyway. And I suppose I’ll have to start looking at the record books at the house to see what I actually have.” She knew it was a lot, in muggle or wizarding money, but she did not specifically know how much. The Meliflua family was wealthy though, at least wealthy enough to have strong connections with the other pure families, and her grandmother had ensured that she would get part of the money without her parents squandering it.
“I can help you look at your books when you get your inheritance.” Dirk was eager to help repay her help, and money was something he was pretty good with. Just like she was happy to help him, he was happy to help her. “I mean, if you want my help.” He added, realizing she might not want to share that sort of information with him. Most people didn’t share their incomes with friends.
“That would be really helpful actually, Dirk. I don’t even know where to start with half of the things, so your input would be amazing!” She continued rubbing his back, now just with sweeping strokes of her hands since she had worked most of the tension out of him.
Dirk grinned widely at her affirmative response. He was relieved and glad she wanted to have his help. “I’m starting to think about banking maybe. I mean when I finish at Hogwarts.” It seemed such a mundane topic, to be talking about banking when Ophelia was touching his naked back and sitting straddling him. Okay, so he was on his stomach, so it wasn’t so intimate as all that, but she was still touching him. “And well, I like helping you and doing things with you.”
“I’ll probably end up doing portraits for rich people. Or maybe something with potions. I’m good at that.” Ophelia shrugged, continuing to massage his back and bending to brush a soft kiss over his shoulder. “Whatever you do though, you’re going to be brilliant. You’re incredibly clever and that will help a lot, I imagine.”
“It takes a lot of talent, to do either of those things.” Dirk noted, knowing she would succeed. “If you do potions, would you want to work for someone? Or do it independently?” He was curious how such things worked in the wizarding world. He wasn’t even sure about wizard banking really, except Professor Slughorn had seen him working on his ledgers this week in class and asked him about it. It hadn’t been something Dirk had really considered. The only thing Dirk had known about his career was that he wanted to do something in the wizarding world, but that hadn’t exactly narrowed things much.
Ophelia smiled softly and shrugged. “I think I would do independent work and sell to the places that know me. With Mrs. Black to recommend me, I should be able to get started easily enough.” Her hands moved so they were now massaging the base of his back, at least for the moment. “More relaxed now?”
Mrs. Black sounded intimidating, but if she could help Ophelia, that was what mattered. And Ophelia was asking him a question as her hands continued to move over him. “What umm, yes.” Dirk focused again, feeling just slightly disappointed that she would stop. But well, “Do you want me to do you now?” He asked, starting to turn a little to face her.
Ophelia laughed and shook her head, kissing the middle of his back softly and continuing to massage him. “No, I just wanted to be sure that I was doing a good job. You’ve had so much hard work over this week, I want to make sure you’re able to relax and rest now. I think we should stay here tonight, though, don’t you agree?”
“You’re amazing, Ophelia.” Dirk was quick to reassure her. It wasn’t necessarily adequate to describe her but its the best he could do. And she was talking about spending the night and Dirk had been hoping that, but hadn’t wanted to say it or to assume that they would. Just because they did it sometimes, he didn’t want to assume it would happen all the time. She did still have Evan courting her after all, even if she said they ended up married eventually. And tonight, he was very happy to stay with her. She was amazing. “Is that one of your talents too?” It was like she knew what he had been hoping for.
“Is...being amazing one of my talents? No, I don’t think most people see me that way, so this is just you.” She laughed softly and went back to kissing over his back, enjoying the closeness she was having with him. It was not something she was able to get every day, so when she could be with him without eyes on them both? She appreciated it more than she could manage to express.
“Maybe if people knew you better they’d think so,” Dirk mused distractedly. She was kissing him, it was hard to think properly as a result. He enjoyed being close to her like this, intimate and sweet. She was sweet. “I like when you kiss me,” he admitted softly.
“I like kissing you…” Ophelia smiled shyly and kissed his neck, allowing her hands to again trail down his back. “Being close to you is pretty brilliant, really. Don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed being with someone like I do with you… I love you, Dirk.”
He couldn’t help but grin widely at her words. “I love you too. And I’m… glad you enjoy being with me, that you feel… safe.” He knew about her bad past, and Slytherins weren’t normally known to be all that trusting either. But Ophelia trusted him, loved him. Things were still quite complicated but that was worth something.
Ophelia leaned over and softly kissed his neck, a teasing smile on her face. “I feel more than just safe when I am with you, Dirk. I want to make you feel good. All the time. I enjoyed working with you not for the work, but just for the time we had.” She kissed along his spine gently, stopping at the waistband of his trousers and grinning. “Turn over, then?”
Dirk was only too happy to comply, to be able to look at her, to touch her a little in turn. “I hope you are safe when we’re together.” He smiled at her gently and reached to touch her arm softly, leaning forward to kiss her now too, softly. There was no rush now that his work was over. They could take their time and enjoy being together.
