Melissa combed her fingers through her hair, inspecting the dye and making sure she got the portions she wanted. The bright pink was something she would never give up, and now that she was out of jail it didn't matter if someone recognized her. Granted she had a parole officer to report to, but this time? This time she wasn't going to get caught because this time she wasn't going to be some dumb teenager who let shit get in the way. If she spent time doing anything in jail, it was getting over Angar and thinking about where everything went wrong. Flaws in the work that the Grapplers did and lots of reading in the library on the justice system as well as other seemingly pointless topics. A little bit of engineering, some work on architecture, and so on.
She'd been released from jail that morning, met her parole officer and was now preparing to do exactly what he told her not to do. Leave the state. Pennsylvania wasn't exactly a state that she'd ever see herself going back to, and it just happened to be the one that she'd been arrested in. She would head somewhere else. New York, maybe, or Jersey. Somewhere out of range.
The new cell phone buzzed on the sink counter and she picked it up. Not a phone call, but a text message from an unknown number. Technology hadn't changed too much over the years, and she could figure out how to navigate the smart phone with ease and read the message.
New York. Penn Station. Storage Locker 32-B.Melissa stared at the message a moment and realized who it was from. There was a grunt of frustration that she wouldn't even be able to enjoy herself a bit before he put her to work, but it didn't look like that would happen. Yeah, he'd given her some money stuffed into the wallet that was returned to her upon her release, but it wasn't enough to buy a car. So what was she going to do? Well, that's where creativity came into play.
