"You studied ahead." He said, a bit winded. Jason sat up, and put his arms on his knees as he looked over and watched how his class was doing. "Okay guys, I want Cassie and Ryan center mat." He called. While everyone hurried and sat around the edges of the mat he nodded for Zel to take a seat next to him. "Remind me later to show you how to not telegraph as much."
Jason of course had seen all of her moves coming, but the point of the lesson wasn't to defeat her, but teach. So giving her the confidence was crucial. Next time however, she might have a bit more trouble when he started to fight back.
"Okay, Ryan I want you to take down Cassie." He instructed.
The teenage boy, who had well over a foot on the ten year old girl looked at him like he was insane. "Really Sensei?" He asked.
"Really." Jason nodded. "Or I can ask her to take you down."
As the two started he leaned over to Zel, "Watch her carefully." She didn't have a lot of height to her, granted Cassie was much smaller, but he wanted Zel to see some techniques on how easily it could be for someone so small to take on someone so large. Cassie took a low stance to optimize her center of gravity and make herself a harder target for Ryan, turning a weakness into a strength. He then threw some strikes at her, all which she deflected, without effort. As he struck out, she used his own forward momentum to drive his fist wide with a simple push on his arm. Yes, she had to be quick enough to act, but by using minimum effort to deflect, she wasn't tiring herself out or taking any hits to her arms.
Jason whispered to Zel again. "Now she's about to use a variant throw because she's so small, it's only really effective when your opponent is so much larger than you, otherwise, you can get a bit tangled." As Ryan circled to kick her, she pivoted, taking his leg under her arm. She then released her stance and fell backward to the mat, taking his leg with her as it finished it's arch. As she fell she rolled, causing him to twist over her and land hard on the mat. Cassie then rolled to her feet and took her stance again.
The class applauded as Ryan got up more than a bit annoyed to have been taken down by a little girl. Jason got up and clapped the boy on his shoulders. "Don't feel bad... she's my ringer." He smiled. "But let's go over this... what did you guys observe?"
The class went on, they went through good practices they'd seen and areas of improvement. Then two other students went head to head and the same thing happened until half the class had been cycled through. At that point their time was up and Jason gathered everyone up again in lines. "Practice your forms, and remember. We defend and protect those who cannot protect themselves. We do not seek fights." He said, quoting part of the Camelot Oath. All the students repeated it back to him. "Class dismissed, see you all next week."
A number of the students said bye to him, referring to him as Arthur or Sensei. Once all had left but Zel he walked over to her. "So... will I see you next week?"
