For countless millenia, Mephisto had plied his dark trade, the acquisition of mortal souls. There were others who did much the same, but Mephisto considered himself more of a connoseur than his "colleagues". Any demon could acquire the soul of an evil or stupid man, but the pure, the innocent, the good? Those were the souls of the most substance and value. There was no finer art among the elite of the Hells than to bring a noble soul to damnation, and Mephisto was a master at his craft. Mankind may shift and modernize over the mortal generations, but their capacity for sin never diminished.
However, something never before seen was starting to happen. An age of costumed, larger than life heroes was developing. Yes there had been such vigilantes before, but never so many. Without a doubt, these costumed adventurers would be the defining symbol of the current mortal-age. As such, they were the new source of Mephisto's interest. These well-meaning, naive fools..he looked forward to welcoming them into his embrace. Let the pure be damned!
