Eli was pretty certain that he could not possibly feel more awkward than he felt. Naturally, it all started with the limo. He was not by any means wealthy, and though his grandmother supported him, he had to work a regular job to help out, and to provide himself with a small income if he wanted to actually buy anything. For that reason, he tended to be frugal, at least up until tonight. Between the tickets, his rented suit, and the corsage he had bought for Kate (which he kind of felt lame about now), he had just about blown all of his savings, and while he would have otherwise been alright with that, he could not help but feel that his expenditure was hardly a drop in the bucket compared with what Kate and her seemingly wealthy friend were used to. A feeling that was only further compounded as Mia began to go through the small refrigerator.
And then of course there was Tommy, who Kate would hardly look at. While Eli did not know their history, it was plain enough that there was something that had went down between the two of them, and the mystery of it did nothing to put him at ease.
As he leaned back into his seat and wondered yet again why he was here and why Kate had even agreed to this, he watched the proceedings passively, before offering a little shrug.
"I... suppose there are probably worse things we could get into."
