Doug Ramsey was sitting back in his computer chair, arms crossed and dozing off. The glow on the computer screen washed his room in light, a document for English class staring at him.
Ping.
His eyes fluttered open. A message... from unknown? 'Proof', it said, with hypertext. He clicked the link... and a streaming video loaded on a strange web page with IP numbers strung on the address bar. The video loaded, and when it began, he sat up in his seat.
Riddler... live footage? Streaming, yes. He started to watch the video, his eyes growing tighter as the man in the trap shook, being electrocuted. Was this real? If not, it was a pretty sick joke.
The video changed to a costume in a purple cloak... a girl, showing up to save Cluemaster. He'd mentioned Cluemaster to Enigma the other day. His stomach raised to his throat.
"This one is for my friend, Cy."
Doug cursed under his breath, holding the desk, knuckles white. And then the Riddler used the riddle. THAT riddle. He was going to kill her! Oh God, he killed Cluemaster. It was Doug's fault; he should never have mentioned him and now... a man was dead and that vigilante girl was next.
Doug sat up and his hands flew over his keyboard. He didn't have the tools to trace it, to stop it, but if he could get... who had access... that Oracle system and all its datastreams leading everywhere... he could tap into that and try to find him and stop him. This Oracle knew Batman, Enigma had said. He could get a message to Batman and he could find him. He had to.
The system had a new firewall code. Oracle had already taken steps. It took Doug six minutes to even begin to poke through and gain access... and even then he was working against a timer... some sort of rotating algorhythm. He only hoped he could keep up with Oracle's work.
He gained access to a tracer program, opening up an instance of it and running the video from... tracing...
"Come on come on come on," he practically shouted through gritted teeth.
