Cass tilted her head to the side as Tim tried to explain that it was the guy who was expected to give gifts to the girl. "Why?"
She wasn't sure what the giving of things was supposed to accomplish, but if it made Doug happy, she supposed it was worth a try. And since her adoption she was pretty sure she was now rich, and she was willing to bet Doug wasn't. She figured it'd be easier for her to give Doug things than the reverse.
Finding a common interest with him seemed easier, though. She was trying to come up with an interest they shared -- gestural language and making out sprang to mind the most readily -- when he asked how serious she and Doug were.
She might have been confused by the wording of the question if she hadn't been carefully studying his body language. Tim wanted to know how far she and Doug had gotten in their relationship. "We kiss," she replied carefully. A lot. I ... teach him things. He ... teaches me."
She honestly had very little idea how broadly that could be interpreted.
