None came. The door closed and the hall was silent, lights turning on dim and gradually brightening as they moved further toward the chambers that waited at the end. Computers were booting, everything turning on to greet him as though he were the desired Luthor the systems were designed to hail and wake for.
Red Robin broke away from his side, feet quick and quiet to carry him to the far wall to look over the tanks. Something changed in his pulse, his jaw tightening as he looked over the rows. There were heavy metal doors that could slide over the cubbies that held each tank to trap each pod in, but currently all were open. Some tanks were burst... from the inside out from what he could tell by looking at where the few glass shards on the floor remained, though none fell beyond where the doors would have closed. Some hasty cleaning looked to have been done. Some tanks were different from the others, not matching the symmetrical designs of the far ones that looked unused. Tim slowed down, pacing slowly from burst tank to burst tank to the hastily replaced ones to the one that looked intact and had fluid lines in it. His eyes flicked over it, then he silently went to the computer console.
He didn't say anything, didn't answer anything until he found the information he was looking for. Conner could see it all over his shoulder. Subjects, all labeled, dated, timed, and each with a bright red Deceased over their electronic files. The end lines described that the adult subjects had grown to the point of instability and exploded from the inside out. The first one he read slowly, and then just cursory looks as he flipped through them, each having met similarly gruesome ends with only different notes on different actions attempted.
Then suddenly a file that did not have a red Deceased at the top. Tim stopped on it, hands freezing on the keyboard so they both could read.
Subject: Lena
Tim leaned back, turning toward his friend. He didn't say anything, only watched him, the slight opening of his mouth and lowered shoulders voicing his concerns where words didn't quite come yet.
