She was only mildly surprised to have received the invitation; she was more surprised that she hadn't been ignored all night by the hosts- though that was only to be expected when her estranged husbandloversomething Beloved. She saw him coming the moment he started moving towards her, despite his nearly comical costume. She inclined her head in casual acceptance of his compliment- and it was a compliment.
"I thought perhaps I would take the opportunity your invitation presented to be none other than myself for an evening. One does occasionally grow tired of masks." She looked over his costume for a minute, but kept the pointedness out of her gaze. Her Beloved; he was only ever himself when he wore a mask.
"And who are you supposed to be?" She asked in a tone that suggested she had picked up the phrase from its endless repetition to her this evening, but she was trying to divert the subject, to be pleasant. "I'm afraid I'm not familiar." She added, gesturing to his pirate gear, "Some sort of... privateer?"
