Dinah & Open
Okay, so. Not many people got her costume off the bat. A lot of them got close but there was a whole nuance there that was lost on a lot of people. With her trousers, boots, blouse, variety of sashes, gold-trimmed tricorner hat, cutlass and fake bottle of rum, she made a respectable pirate. Of course, the whole trick of the thing was that she was actually visibly pregnant. And the red wig should have been another clue. But apparently no one was familiar with the famous female pirate, Anne Bonny, who "pled her belly" to escape the hangman's noose. It had at least left Bruce with the chance to match as Anne's lover and fellow pirate, "Calico Jack" Rackham; but Dinah was pretty sure he was getting Jack Sparrow for most of the evening, which probably was closer than the "generic pirate" observations she got stuck with.
Halloween parties were a lot less interesting when one couldn't drink their way through them; but at least the food was good-- and she was allowed to have absolutely all of it, since Alfred had gone out of his way to make sure that nothing was served that she would have to avoid. In lieu of a cocktail, she currently carried around with her a warm cup of virgin cider, and a plate piled high with roasted fall produce like brusselsprouts, butternut squash, fuji apples and salted pumpkin seeds.
All in all, it wasn't a bad way to spend an evening, even if she occasionally had to press a hand to her belly, poking back at the little intruder who apparently really enjoyed the music (or really hated it?) and had decided to take a spin around his own cramped quarters.
