Auctions
The auctions, all in support of Planned Parenthood, in connection with the Martha Wayne Foundation. Donations of items to be auctioned off - trips, expensive wine, spirits, and food, professional cooking lessons, trips to day spas, and other services - had been rolling in for months.
In a corner, bottles of wine covered one table, and bottles of whisky covered another beside it. Guest could purchase a playing card for $50 with a number on the back at either table, and the winner would take everything on the respective table.
In addition, staff circled the room with a hand full of tarot cards, a number written on the back of each. A donation of $25 gave the person one of these cards, and a number (or more), drawn at the end of the night, would determine the winner of a year's supply of coffee.
Other staff members peddled balloons in orange and black with prizes hidden inside. A $50 donation won each of them gifts, such as a bottle of wine, gift certificates to the movies, a restaurant, a local business, or something similar. One balloon contained tickets for two to attend the L.A. premiere of the upcoming blockbuster, including airfare.
