Prom Schmom
Who: Barry Allen, Bart Allen
NPCS: Iris Allen
Date: April 28th
What: Bart tries on Barry's signature red bow tie and realizes he doesn't actually know anything about Prom, or dating, or girls in general.
Rating: PG (maybe PG-13, if Bart gets "The Talk")
Bart stood in his grandmother and grandfather's bedroom in front of a mirror, trying to figure out how he was supposed to tie a bow tie. He'd looked it up on wikihow, printed out the instructions and the diagram, but it still didn't look right. He was able to make a bow, sure, but it was crooked and every time he tried to straighten it, it just spun back into its cock-eyed position.
Frustrated, Bart tore the darned thing off his neck and flopped onto the floor to study the instructions and to practice tying the bow tie on his leg.
These were the times when normal teenage boys had their dads to help them: all of the movies and TV shows said so. Or at least their mom who would say it was okay to not know how to do these things and that they shouldn't try to grow up too fast.
Thinking about his parents only made things worse. Bart's fingers felt clumsy, so he tried to make up for it with speed, tying and untying and tying all over again, fighting against the fact that he very well might cry if he didn't get this under control and he was too old for that kind of thing. He was just going to have to get over it if he wanted to be the Flash someday.
Besides, no one would ever go to the prom with him if he was mopey all the time. Bart sniffed and pushed the thoughts of his mom and dad to the back of his head as he kept working on the tie, humming and half-singing the first thing that came to mind...
"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms. When I awoke I, was mistaken, so I hung my head and I cried. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away."
