Who: Effie Nashton (Narrative)
What: Dealing with problems
Where: New York City, NY
When: March 6th
Rating: Low
Jack Hench’s office door burst open and the man looked up from the paperwork he was pursuing, arching an eyebrow at the red-headed teen who entered. “You could have knocked,” he said, frowning and removing his ear buds.
“I did, Effie said, gesturing to the passed out secretary who had barred her way. Given the blood smears on the door, and the poor boy’s battered face, it was clear what she had used as a knocker. “I need something special for my new husband.”
Jack continued to stare at her for a long, silent moment...long enough for Effie to shift slightly, the girl glancing away. Satisfied that she was sufficiently chastised for damaging toys that weren’t hers, he stood, pushing away from the desk. “Follow me.”
--
“What is it?” Effie asked, holding up the glass cube Jack had given her to the light, watching the pulsating, black goo inside the cube.
“No honest idea. One of my researchers brought it to me. They claim it’s a symbiote of some sort, but I have no idea of it’s effects.”
Effie glanced at Jack out of the corner of her eye. “If you have no idea what it is or does, what makes you think I’ll be interested in it?”
“You like the unknown. It’s a riddle with no answer.”
Effie fully glared at him for that comment, before her attention turned back to the cube, watching it, almost hypnotized by its movements. “Fine, but you have to throw in a new rpg.” She finally stated.
Jack plucked the cube from her hands, causing the girl to give a slight whine. “Shall we write up the paperwork?”
--
“Well now what do I do with you?” Effie asked the cube as she moved across the workroom she shared with Peter, intending to put the cube on a shelf and pretty much forget about it while she tried to solve the current problem of how to get her super-hero boyfriend off her back.
Nightwing came screeching into the room, sliding past Effie on the hard tiled floor, followed by a barking Luna who was trying to get the cat.
“Luna, no!” Effie yelled, her hands flying out as Nightwing darted under her, forcing her to flip/fall in order not to step on the cat. The cube went flying, shattering hard onto the floor, spreading glass shards everywhere.
Effie groaned, rubbing her chin, hissing as she found a piece of glass lodged in her skin, bleeding heavily. She sighed, looking down at her bloody hand before turning to take in the mess, hoping the animals hadn’t gotten injured in the chaos.
She blinked at the shards, tilting her head, wondering where their contents had gone given that all that remained was empty glass before shrugging. “One less thing to worry about,” she muttered, rising, dripping blood everywhere as she headed to the make-up table in-order to remove the glass from her chin.
Behind her, the little symbote slittered around the base of the costume racks, wiggling up them like a worm. Nightwing caught sight of the parasite and hissed, leaning back in a crouch, ready to defend his mistress’ belongings. The Symbiote scurried faster, using the material of Peter’s Spider-man costume in order to gain better purchase in it’s attempt to outrun the housecat. From the neck, it flattened out, spreading out over the costume, covering it before shifting, the black colouring, mimicking the costume exactly.
Nighting hissed again, but after a few swipes at the costume, got chased off by Effie, leaving the contaminated costume behind.
