It certainly was different, having a place that wasn't in the barracks of HQ or on a mobile military unit. The quiet and distance from work was hard to adjust to. He hadn't realized he'd gotten used to the constant footsteps, noises from machinery, or the soft babble and hum of other agents and operatives nearby.
The silence that he experienced when he got home was deafening. And for a few brief moments, it was unnerving. But Coulson prided himself on adapting quickly, and he was starting to get used to it, even appreciate it. It wasn't like he was completely cut off from SHIELD here, he had his computers and files in the office, along with his phone, that buzzed almost constantly with updates. Really, it was like staying at a hotel on a business trip.
Except that the stay never really ended.
The apartment hadn't changed much since he'd moved in, the art that the decorator had picked out was still up, along with how the furniture had been placed. He didn't really have pictures or curious to add to the shelves, there were only books that again the decorator had chosen. He supposed he could fill them with something, but he was at a loss for exactly what. Coulson had modified a few of the storage units to secretly hold a few weapons of his choosing, just in case. Even here, at this home, he was never off duty completely.
He'd changed after he arrived home, switching out of his standard suit and tie into something more casual.
