Mia was good in social situations. It was just the way her brain worked. For the most part she liked meeting new people and having conversations with them. Sure, sometimes she met people who weren’t so great, but average people could be funny or smart or compassionate. She liked meeting them.
After all, she really didn’t like to concentrate on the bad in the world. She knew how her brain could work.
She was standing at a tall table talking to a guy. His friends were playing darts. She’d been there for a little while, but they’d quickly banned her from the game. But oh well, he was nice, and hell, cute. He was a couple years older maybe with some nice brown hair.
“Oh no, I haven’t actually been many places.” She said flagging down the waitress and motioning for another drink. “But I did go to Greece over the holidays. It was pretty great. Although this conversation definitely has me planning my next trip.” She said leaning across said table a bit.
Hey, always nice to flirt a bit.
The waitress returned with her drink, and she took a small drink from it. “So what is your favorite color pink?” He teased in regards to her drink.
“You’re just jealous. It tastes like bubblegum and you’re stuck with the nasty shit your drinking because of manly reasons.” She joked.
“Bubblegum really?” He said quirking an eyebrow at her.
“Yeah.” She said lifting it up and leaning closer. “Smell.”
Instead he smiled at her for a minute, moved her hand away, and leaned over and kissed her. It took her a second before responding herself. And Jesus, it was a nice kiss. “Alright, definitely bubblegum.”
Mia gave a slight snort and playfully smacked at him. “Anyway, listen.”
“Wanna get out of here?”
Mia bit her lip. She wasn’t some naive person who thought that question meant anything other than sex. “Listen. You should know. I’m HIV positive, and I reali-” She glanced over at him. He’d stopped dead. “I know it’s a shock, and you can just walk away it’s not a big deal or anything.”
“Let me get this straight.” He said looking and sounding far more put out than he should. Like she’d personally offended him in some manner. “You have that, and you still come out to party and flirt and hook up. That’s just wrong.”
Mia’s eyes narrowed. “As I said. Just walk away then.” She stood up to walk away herself.
“Well I guess blowjobs are acceptable.” It was said under his breathe and in a sarcastic tone, but she just felt a knot in her stomach. She was normally good at verbally smacking down assholes, but the comment made her uncomfortable in a way she hadn’t felt for a very long.
Her action was lightning quick, as she tossed her drink in his face, dropped the class and sent a right hook at him that had him tumbling out of his chair. The place erupted. His friends, still in the midst of their dart game, rallied.
He seemed stunned but stood up. “You are a crazy bitch! What the fuck!”
And that was all it took to launch herself back at him, but she only got one good hit in before a pair of strong arms locked around her midsection. Under normal circumstances she was hyper aware of her surroundings, but the bouncer had jumped into action pretty damn quick.
Really even this hold was basic, but restraining her wasn’t a good thing at that moment. “Get off of me!” She yelled out, attempting her best to elbow at him, but there wasn’t a ton of space and he tried to reach for her hand. Really just doing his job.
