Who: Loki, L.L., open to Teen Titans
Where: Titan Warehouse
When: 3/23/15
What: Loki is insistent on training L.L. somewhere safe. His definition of these things probably needs work.
Rating: PG?

“Spree, shh! It’s just me!”

“Intruder detected. I’m aware. Intruder detected. Intruder detected.”

“Do you have to repeat it?” Loki asked as he kicked the few bits of broken glass toward the wall and shook the shards out of his shirt.

“No. Intruder-.”

“Well, stop, then! You’re sounding like a robot.”

“-detect-Fine. But I am still not conversing with you.”

Loki grinned as he walked through the Titan’s hideout, waving his hand. “S’all good, Spree. I know you’re not allowed. Now I just have to figure out…” He peered at the locking mechanisms on the door.

Two minutes later…

“Ta-da!” Loki announced, opening the door for L.L. from the inside of the warehouse and bowing her in. “Told you! I could make a living being a burglar if I so chose, and if I wanted to risk my life at the wrath of just about everybody I liked. Come on! It looks like they still use this place a bit. I bet there’s soda in the fridge!”

He ran ahead of L.L. to investigate down the corridor. His voice echoed back toward her from the Titans’ ‘commons’ area. “Score! Orange crush!”

"Maybe this wasn't a good idea," came her response when the godling threw open the door. For the last few days L.L. had been second guessing her decision to accompany Loki to the Titan's headquarters. It just didn't seem like it would end well considering the last time they showed up there Loki released a dragon upon New York. He claimed it wouldn't happen again because of "magical shields" but that didn't mean something else couldn't happen and this time she'd be the cause of it.

She looked about the corridor warily as she limped along with the help of her crutches. Her wrist had managed to heal up quite nicely and it seemed her leg was soon going to be free of the cast. The doctors seemed to find this odd, but chalked it up to good health or something like that. L.L. knew it was probably the magic that was helping her heal faster. It was weird, but not unwelcome.

"Orange Crush?" she repeated as she hobbled into the common room. "Don't drink their stuff! Sheesh, you really do want us to get in trouble."

He really had given up trying to explain the dragon wasn't his fault. Now he just owned that he unleashed a dragon. It actually seemed to work better that way.

"It's not a terrible idea," he assured cheerfully. Honestly, L.L. could be such a worrier. Loki was going to have to figure some way of instilling more confidence in her.

Loki was looking through the fridge when she said that. He leaned back to look at her. "Why, L.L., my dear, I'm pretty certain if Asgardians had middle names, mine would definitely be Trouble." He grinned cheekily, kicking the fridge door closed while holding the can of orange soda, ketchup, mustard, a bag of grapes and beckoning to her. "This way. There's a nice big open space over this way." He scampered on ahead of her, heading into a large bay area that now was the Titan's work out area. He looked around, humming, then trot to the middle, sitting down cross-legged and taking the mustard and drawing a simple symbol on the floor with it, doing a fairly neat job for having a yellow condiment to work with. "Do you need a cushion to sit on?" he asked without looking up.

L.L.'s nose wrinkled up when she saw what Loki had crammed into his arms. Soda and grapes weren't weird but mustard and ketchup? She knew Asgardians could be a bit odd when it came appetites but no one in their right mind would want mustard and ketchup with grapes not even someone as weird as Loki. Well, okay, maybe someone as weird as Loki, but she swore he had better taste than that.

She entered the work out area right as he finished drawing a symbol onto the floor with mustard. Oh. He was going to use the condiments to... draw? "Couldn't you just bring some paper and a pen? Drawing on the floor like that is just nasty."

Lowering herself onto the floor she realized a cushion would be a good idea. The concrete floor was just way too hard. Why didn't they have chairs in here? Ugh. "Um, yeah. A cushion would be good. Or a chair."

"Mustard will wash, unlike marker." The green eyes shot up, assessing her discomfort quickly. He set the mustard bottle down, rolled backwards with hands over his shoulders and pushing to his feet quickly. He raced back shortly after with the Titan's couch cushion. "Bum up!" he said cheerfully.

Once he was sitting again across from her, he snapped his fingers. "First, you're going to have to work on clearing your mind. Magic like this takes concentration and intent and getting an 'understanding' with the universe's energy. The more that understanding is cemented, the easier pulling spells becomes. Basic, really."

"Why do you need to draw on the floor in the fir--?" Before she could finish Loki was rushing off to get her a cushion. L.L. pondered over her question, her face lighting up with recognition. Symbols on the floor! They do that in all those movies about magic! With that realization, she didn't bother to repeat were question when Loki arrived with the cushion and commanded her to lift herself up so he could slip it under her. Ahh, much better.

"Concentrate? Like meditation?" The nose was wrinkled up once again. "I can't meditate. Like, really, I can't. I tried yoga once? It was bad. Boring. I can't shut off to get some kind of understanding-" Quotations were used when she said the word. "Of the universe."

"Hmm, don't think of it as shutting down your thinking. In a lot of ways you're going to be doing a lot more thinking, learning how to be aware of everything. You're opening up a different part of your mind that you're not used to using. Like your subconscious. An example would be like that moment of clarity as you're waking up without a thought and your dreams are slipping away and it's that comfortable quiet where you understand you're in bed but blissfully not having to think about it. The moment just is."

He held his hand out suddenly. "Cellphone."

L.L. looked down at his outstretched hand. Her eyes narrowed as she realized what Loki was wanting her to do. "Oh no. You are not taking my cell. It is my life. Seriously. My life. You take my cell and I'll drop dead right here. Nonono."

She started looking about the room, contemplating her escape. No way learning this untapped magic was worth giving up her cellphone. Her eyes landed on Ikol and stayed there, a frown on her face. Stupid bird and his stupid magic and his stupid everything! Making everything so damn complicated!

She left out a puff of air and turned back to Loki. "Can't I just put it on silent?"

Loki smiled and closed one eye. "Oh, I think you'll find you're much more resilient than that."

"Stop that." It was a calm admonishing to her looking at Ikol. He'd argued with her repeatedly that she needed to ignore him. Ikol brooded silently, staring back at her where he was perched on some of the workout equipment.

Now he frowned, digging into his own pocket and pulling out his cellphone. "No. Cellphones are constantly communicating and putting out a subtle electronic vibe. It's useless for this exercise." A sudden innocent smile. "Mine will keep yours company! No worries."

L.L. let out an annoyed grunt at being admonished. Why was Loki so intent on her ignoring the bird? He never really explained it during their arguments, just said she was being silly and that he didn't exist so she shouldn't think about it. But she couldn't not think about the bird always hovering about. He did exist and he always seemed to know things. Well, she assumed. He always had that look in his eyes which is really weird because it was a bird but whatever.

"But what if we need them?" That was a valid question. The last time they'd done troublesome things a cellphone to call for help would have been much appreciated. When they bit of logic didn't seem to sway him she let out another puff of air.

"Ugh. Fine!" She took her phone from her pocket and turned it off before reluctantly handing it to him. "If anything happens to this I'll smack you so hard you'll be seeing birds. Plural!"

"You'd hurt your hand on my head," he said with quiet amusement, even as he flipped his hand to show the small tool he'd been keeping. It was over in three seconds. He had neatly opened up her cellphone and took out the battery, then his own. He cast them sidelong so they slid across the floor harmlessly, the cell cases going to his satchel.

The playfulness was gone from his face as he snapped his fingers to regain her focus, a small tongue of yellow flame hovering over his thumb. "Concentrate. Nothing matters right now but what's here and now before you."

"HEEELLOOOOOOOOO!!" A loud, sing-sony voice sounds through the Tower, along with the slam of a door. "I baked aaaaalllll day yesterday and..."

A red-headed girl stopped as the two came into view, her eyes going wide, smile disappearing. "Uhm..... Ican'teatallofthemmyself????" Clutched in her hands was a large basket of cookies, the smell of freshly baked delicious things wafting out of it.

"Hey!" L.L. watched helplessly as her phone was eviscerated. Her gaze followed the discarded battery, her expression forlorn. "What the hell? Why did you--?" She went quiet, noting Loki's expression. She decided it was not a look she liked, but feared it would be the one she'd be subjected to during these lessons.

"Concentrate on what?" She asked, staring at the flame he had created. "The flame?" Just then, she heard the sound of a female voice call out and froze in place. The Titans! "Oh man. I knew it."

"Nn?" The flame sputtered out almost immediately, and he looked toward his hand, then at Maxine. There was a second debate on how to react to her, then he jumped up. "AHHHH! Cookies! Can we have some? They smell delicious! Don't get up, L.L., I will be your personal fetcher!"

He hurried up to Maxine, then made a bow toward her. "It is nice to see you again, Lady Cyclone! Come and join us, won't you? We're practicing magic, you see. This is a safe place to do so." He pattered behind her quickly, ushering her (and the cookies) toward where L.L. was sitting. "Don't worry! L.L. is nice! You two should get along splendid!"

After meeting the Titans James had been dropping in on occasion to the base they had all met up at to work out and train on his own. And so he could get to know this time a lot better on the computers.

As he walked in he heard voices and wondered if the Titans were here. Figuring that was the case he quickened his pace a bit and rounded the corner and blinked when he realized it wasn't the Titans (okay one) but Loki and an injured girl.

"I didn't know you were allowed in here Loki."

Maxine blinked rapidly while all of this was happening, eyes still wide. "Uhm..... Hi?" She was being pushed towards L.L. when another person arrived. Looking at James, she gave him a plainly confused look. "I didn't ... know that ... uh ... you guys would be here..."

Recovering a little, she slowly started taking out the tupperware containers. "So there's chocolate chip .... lemon bars .... white chocolate, macadamia nut and raspberries .... and fudge squares."

"......Magic? What kind of magic?"

L.L.'s gaze moved between the redhead and the newest arrival, slightly baffled. The Titans seemed to be taking their intrusion surprisingly well. Sure, they were confused, but they weren't yelling or trying to shoo them out like she thought they would. Hell, one was even offering them desserts as if it was completely normal for a god and a girl in a cast to be sitting on the floor with a symbol written in mustard in the space between them. Thinking about it, maybe weird things like this were normal. They did seem to have an interesting assortment of members, after all.

"Complicated magic?" She answered uncertainly, looking to Loki for elaboration. She honestly had no idea how to explain the magic coursing through her. It was just... magic.

"Christmas Stray! There you are!" Loki grinned toward James, then pointed at him, hips and chest set in obvious admonishment. "You worried the heck out of the Scarlet Witch. Don't take off like that next time! She was sure you were going to freeze in all the snow we had! You're lucky she didn't try to conjure you. Also." Cheerfulness again. "You totally missed out on leftovers."

Then his attention was on Maxine once more, green eyes slanted like a cat on a mouse. "You said fudge squares? I feel like I must judge their fudginess!" He held both palms up, cupped together, entirely expecting to be given some or her opening the tupperware so he could dig in himself.

"Old fashioned arcane magic!" he provided cheerfully. "It's much different from the mutant energy that taps the chaotic forces that drive the changes of the universe. This spellwork takes dedication and mental training. Pretty much anyone with the correct energy type can perform this magic. They just have to know how." He held his palm out toward L.L. to point Maxine's attention toward her. "For example, she now has the energy type from her accident. Now I have to train her mentally to prepare to use it. Here is nice because your chaos mage shielded the warehouse after the, um, dragon incident. So she's in no danger here to open up those energy channels. Trust me. There are bad people in the world who would love to get their hands on people like her, so I have to teach her use and proper cloaking."

The chattery boy turned to Maxine now, leaning toward her and looking at her with a frown. "Which I'm surprised you're so adept at. You obviously use strong elemental forces--air--and usually one user can recognize another user, but you're so good at cloaking I can't tell even now."

Hearing that magic was going to be taught, he arched a brow before Loki's exclaimations brought his attention back to the godling. "I'll apologize," he said. "But I couldn't risk staying just then. But I was fine." He smiled a little, remembering his stay with his father. He needed to let him know he was okay... "I'll stop by again." Wanda struck him as the type who needed to see that a person was okay for herself.

The sweets were sounding good but his attention was once more drawn back to Loki. "Wait wait...dragon incident? There was a real live dragon here??" The magic talk was over his head but he was more fascinated with the talk of dragons.

Seeing LL, he moved over to her and held his hand out to her. "Hi. I'm James by the way." He really needed a cool sounding codename. Christmas Stray was so not going to be it.

"...Arcane? Like ...fire? Uhm .... that doesn't sound very safe." Maxine looked at James, still very confused. "Did you know that they'd be here?" she asked, passing Loki the entire container of fudge squares without really realizing it. "I thought maybe Mia or Teddy would be here."

"Dragon?!" Maxine's attention snapped back to Loki. "Okay uh ... Speedy would not approve of that I'm pretty sure." She suddenly became flustered at the inquiries about her powers. "They're not .... really .... magicit'ssomethinreallydifferent." Tornado mouth, again. Frowning a little, she looked at L.L. next. "Does Speedy know you guys are here?" And then ".....is that mustard?!"

"Hey. I'm L.L.," she replied with a smile as she reached her hand up to shake his. Once that greeting was out of the way, she grabbed a couple of the chocolate chip cookies and offered one to James before biting down on her own. Her eyes lit up and took another bite.

"These are really good," she commented, flashing an appreciative smile towards Maxine. "Thank you."

She let Loki ramble on about dragons and magic without comment, eyes bouncing around the room in an attempt to occupy herself. It would have been a much easier task if Loki hadn't taken her phone. Maxine's question concerning their permission to be in the building brought her back to the conversation.

"Well..." she started, looking over at Loki expectantly. He was the one that insisted on coming here, he could come up with an excuse.

"Ah, you better! Eira will be happy about it, too." Eira had liked James quite a bit. Unlike Ikol, who even now flew to the opposite side of the room on his silent and invisible wings and glowered as much as a bird could toward the fair-haired teen.

Loki beamed at L.L. politely introducing herself, as though as proud as could be at her charming ways. Then at the exclamation concerning dragons, he only laughed and swallowed a large mouthful of fudge. "Don't worry, Thor killed it. It was a pretty nasty piece of work!"

Loki didn't miss a beat at the inquiry on whether or not they were supposed to be there. He had chocolate around his mouth as he bowed a little. "Of course! Spree should have informed your dashing archer and shape-shifting muscle the moment we stepped in!" He faltered a little. "Um, of course, I couldn't use the door that well. You might want to put plastic over the East window. Spare you a draft."

Loki spun on his heel to place himself between Maxine and James, touching their elbows to guide them forward. "Absolutely it's mustard. Quite harmless! Come, sit! You there, you there. Don't worry, James, L.L. doesn't bite. Not that I've seen, anyhow. Lady Cyclone, criss-cross applesauce, and you can put the goodies between you and I. They will bother not a thing. Miss Wind Witch obviously does something special, and the teen fighter should know something about this mindset as well. So perhaps they can assist."

He sat and beamed at them expectantly, all cheer and optimism in his manipulation.

James smiled and took the cookie from LL with a thanks and nibbled on it, adding his own compliment to Maxine with how good they tasted. When LL began looking around, he wondered if Loki had dragged her here. But then hearing that Thor had killed it, his eyes lit up a bit.

"Toru...er, Thor killed it? He's here?" He wondered if this meant Thor wasn't ruling Asgard yet. Most likely not if he was active on Earth. But he hated that he had nearly spilt more information about the future. He still wanted to keep certain things out just in case.

Hearing about the window though he sighed and shook his head. "Do you just yank teens around?" he teased, grinning a bit. Though when Loki grabbed him and had him sit, he shrugged and sat down. "I don't know much about magic," he returned. "A friend of mine from home probably knows a bit more than I do but she's obviously not here."
