Maria too was at a loss for what to say, but less from the obvious awkwardness as from trying to figure out how to get them to bridge it. This was where actually knowing what to say about relationships and emotions would come in handy, she supposed, though that still didn't help when she didn't know either party and only had a vested interest because she was there.
"Not formally, no," she answered. "But as you two seem to know each other well..." she prompted. Either he could really introduce her, and she could make her excuses that two old friends should obviously catch up without her being between them, or he would just be drawn to her charms and Maria could be free to go through the recieving line in reverse and head back home.
