In the dim light of the room, Selina felt instantly more at ease. She let him tuck the hair behind her ear, listening to him speak - His words cutting through her, honest and typically Bruce. He always managed to get to the heart of an issue - and he was right, things needed to move slowly. Nights ago she had made a statement to another, the only other, bringing up the idea that she could change. Maybe changing meant more than just giving up her life of crime. Maybe it meant replacing it with something more real. More useful. Selina didn't know for certain, but standing here with Bruce Wayne there was no way she could give up completely. As much as she craved what he could give her, it couldn't fulfill her - and she would be lying to herself and him pretending that it would.
Anything she wanted to say to him seemed pointless, and the chaste kiss he placed on her lips made want to run one hundred miles away. She felt like every single thought she'd had about him was burning up inside of her - every single idea about any kind of future they might share was turning to dust. Selina nodded as he let her mouth drop, pursing her lips slightly. In the half light she thought of Batman, his set jaw, his voice. The small flicker of a smile he'd given her as he'd left her on that rooftops. The knot in her stomach contracted tightly as she spoke.
"I know." she replied. "Things change. People change. It wasn't a break from you, or anyone really, it was a break from me. I guess I just needed some time away from Selina Kyle..."
Slowly. Things had to change slowly. But they would change.
"Soon." she agreed, her fingers running over the bag in her hand, leaning up to place a small kiss on his cheek.
