She could have stayed there forever, pretending that everything was going to be okay and that she and Bruce might actually go somewhere, that things might have changed enough whilst she was away, that she could change. But that would be lying to herself and to him. As much as she wanted it to be the truth, things could never be that simple, that easy. Not as long as part of her heart belonged to the night, belonged to another creature just as dark as she could be. All she could do was try to come to terms with herself and who she could be - who she wanted to be. Then perhaps things could change. She hoped.
"Bruce..." Selina spoke pulling her head from his chest. What she really wanted to ask was why this couldn't work? Why he always seemed so hesitant, why they couldn't just...click? She was the one living with duality, living with a shadow.
"I should head back to the city, it's getting late." She spoke softly, her hands running down from his neck to gasp at his hands that were fixed on her waist, her fingers trailing softly over his.
It was like ripping off a band aid and Selina tried her best to hide the pain that was bubbling up inside of her.
