For all he was harsh and she was probably peering into something she really had not business looking into - any surveillance and probing she did for SHIELD was one thing, but when it was someone's personal life it was another entirely - the laugh was undeniably real in a way that had her smiling briefly. "Well, we're all grateful this is reality instead of Hollywood," she said bluntly.
No, she didn't really need to know this, and still didn't care about celebrity gossip, but given the context, what had just played out around and in front of her at least made a bit more sense. "And now she's back and you've got the fallout of everything," she concluded. Yeah, this would be about the time they'd need a drink.
"Smooth ruffled feathers," she said dryly, though she didn't correct him; it really was as much about surveillance as it was representing and talking about SHIELD and the Helicarrier.
She couldn't help the surge of relief when he shooed her away, even if she couldn't help the little twist of sympathy for by all appearances a nice man and a charming woman doing an awkward dance around each other. She'd be impatient with it herself, pushing for something solid, but this wasn't her and she doubted she could deal better. "People get tired of running and eventually fall over," she said softly, about all the advice she could give.
She smiled, though, as she nodded to him. "Thanks for the conversation and the company," she was obligated to say, though honestly. As she headed off, though, she added over her shoulder, "I'd let her: she's the guest of honor."
