Re: Barbara and Dick
"Oh really," the amused tone in her voice couldn't be hidden this time. "I can count the times on one hand that you've managed to stay through an official event without slipping your attendants." Of course, eventually her father had realized that the best way to keep him behaved was to keep her close. And even that had started mostly because her father had been concerned once the Gift had truly started taking its toll. An unexpected side effect...
"And the nobility of Gotham? What would you do when the rumors started flying. They already are. A prince spending as much time as he does with a guard member's family? Just imagine the scandal." She took a breath and managed to scoot over a bit to make some more room for him to sit if he wanted to. He was lying about the boots but she didn't mention it. "I did used to be rather good at dancing," she said with a small nod. "It shouldn't be much longer. Just a bit of time to rest.... And I'm watching trying to figure out what the different dance steps are. It's a jumble of different traditions." She raised her hand and requested another bottle and another mug, which came soon after.
"You don't really mean to ask that question," she said with a small sigh. She knew what he really wanted to know. What had she seen. What was it that was coming. Threats, wins, happenings, losses. But she also knew that he'd never ask it of her directly. They'd known one another too well and for too long for that. "But if it is the answer is very little. Just trying to enjoy what is here before it's gone." The wording was a bit ominous, but not intentionally so. The festivities would be wrapping up soon. And everyone would be going home after all.
