Dick's shoulders came up a bit, pulling a dramatic face at the light chastising. "I do take it easy on them," he attempted to argue, though he knew he could do even better about letting them know he was slipping away. Oh, it wouldn't stop his slipping away, but he could better note it so they could grumble rather than panic.
His blue eyes locked on her, brows jumping once. "I would be happy with it." And really, who else mattered other than her happiness and his father's and brothers'?
He looked toward the dancing where a folk dance had been organized, women ducking under held arms and weaving to new partners among the clapping and cheers. "Well, just as well. My boots are still being broken in." It was a lie and he knew she knew it but said it anyway. "Besides, there's no dance partner out there who could compare to you even as a sitting partner, so here I sit!" He playfully pat the table resolutely.
"So... What's on your mind?" Attempted casualness that had an undercurrent all the same.
