Archery Tourney Who: Open (High Fantasy Event) Where: Faire Grounds - Archery fields When: Fifth day of the Faire What: Archery Tourney Rating: TBD
The archery tournaments is, in fact, a great deal of hurrying up and waiting. Each archer who had placed the year prior is researched from the previous lists and allowed to skip the preliminaries. Each archer who made it past the preliminary field shooting has to be newly registered into the lists. Each archer has to be determined which archery events they will be attending. Each arrow color has to be determined and archers with similar colors assured they will not be aiming at the same targets. Each bow, quiver and archer's armor has to be checked by mages to assure there are no enchantments. Each archer's marks has to be accurately recorded after each shot.
There are several different events to test varying skills. Short range, long range, moving target, quick draw, five-target, and the horseback archery tourney. There are third-place winners in each of the six events with valuable trophies. The most coveted prizes, however, are for those who can win multiple events, these three larger trophies granted by compiling all of an archer's points to determine the highest overall scoring. The archery tournaments last six days for this reason to allow the archers to attend as many of the contests as they wish.
The fields are cleared, the targets set, archers taking their places in line. Spectators line the fence and stands and royalty and nobility attend in the wooden pavilions (if, indeed, they are not on the lines themselves).
And the familiar bellow sounds out. "Archers! Take the line! ... Draw! -- Loose!"
((Feel free to thread into any of the six events. Starting contest is of course the short range, so a good place to start. Keep in mind each one happens on a different day, so thread accordingly.))
