The Hidden War
Who: Captain Marvel and OT reactions for whoever wants to pick up plot threads from this!
Where: Metropolis and surrounding area.
When: April 16, 2012
What: Genis-Vell conducts espionage, leaving some scarce evidence behind...
Rating: PG
"Nixon?" Genis-Vell stood in the dark alley, in probably the only bad neighborhood in all of Metropolis, with a long coat and hat, holding a briefcase. It had taken him a few weeks to root out the man he was looking for, a minor official tied to the city mayor's office, with the sort of unfortunate name he would not have expected a spy to take. Perhaps the cover was excellent, because really... what sort of spy would choose a name like that?
Regardless, the man nodded. Genis allowed himself a small smile, and let the other cautiously approach him. "Is that the item, Dr. Law...?"
"Please, not my real name. Call me Sajak... and yes, this dazzling piece of technology is just for you. If the price... is right. Barker."
The man scrunched his face, perhaps thinking his leak from Star Labs had a few screws loose. Genis found that his pop culture references didn't always match current events... it was a struggle. All he knew was he enjoyed Plinko.
The man approached him, for all intents and purposes a rather average and unattractive fellow with poor taste in aftershave. He held up a piece of plastic, a key that would get him where he wanted to go. "It's right. Access to all Blue Levels at LuthorCorp."
Genis held up a device. "Scan it." The man put the card to the scanner, and after a moment a green light lit up. Another one blinked. "One more time, please."
"Why?" The man eyed the device suspiciously.
"Double verification."
Barker did it again, and the second light turned solid green as well. Genis smiled, a sinister glint in his eye. "Excellent." He offered his hand, and the other man shook it... his clothing shifting and changing to reveal his true face... that of a Skrull. Green skin, ridged jawline, yellow eyes.
"What have you..." The Skrull dodged to the side and reached for his own weapon, shooting it twice where Genis had been a moment before. He felt a sharp blow to his head as the Kree agent kicked him squarely, followed by pressing his boot down on the enemy's throat.
Genis' suitcase folded back on itself, the handle turning into the stock of a Kree energy pistol. He pointed it at the alien. "You can leave this alley one of two ways. I shoot and vaporize you, or I let you go. If you want the second option, you'll tell me if the man you're impersonating is still alive, and where you're keeping him.
"The Kree have no right to Earth," Barker choked out.
"We have no interest in this speck of a planet, Komando. Only in ensuring..." Genis put more weight into his leg, feeling cartilage strain under the pressure, "your people. Stay. Away. Is... he... alive?"
"Y-yes, I've kept him trapped at home, there's no..."
"Thank you." Genis-Vell holstered his weapon, and he burned off his human clothes as his armor triggered and shaped itself over his body. His skin turned faintly blue before shifting into a starlike void. He pocketed the access card in his gauntlet, grabbed the Skrull by the collar, and shot up into the sky, the alien in tow.
"What are you doing?!"
In almost an instant, they came to a stop, hovering in the sky over the Delaware River. "Unfortunately, you know my cover. And you're a scumbag Skrull agent. Your crimes against the people of Earth are crimes against the Kree Empire, and I will carry out your sentence."
"But... you said... you'd let me go."
"That I did."
Genis-Vell jabbed an elbow into the Skrull's chest, knocking the wind out of him. Then he opened his hands. As the Skrull plummeted quietly to his death, the Kree agent ever so casually took out his cell-phone and left a message for the Metropolis police to check the human's apartment. With any luck, the man would be well-treated and return to his life, saddled with only his name and perhaps some nightmares.
Back in Metropolis, in that dark alley, a small device rested on the ground behind a trash can, dropped by the Skrull Komando in their brief scuffle, lights blinking ominously.
