In theory, Maria was here to ensure that Dinah did not babble state secrets, such as the fact that she did the occasional non-Avenger-press-agent-approved mission, when something came up that required a specific skillset and Maria could wheedle her into doing it. It was a very good, logical reason, that was even true. It just wasn't the full truth.
Dinah was her friend. Reporters tended to have rabies - and as much as she liked her, she included Lois Lane in that statement. She was here to make sure that Dinah was, in fact, the one biting off nice big chunks of someone instead of the other way around.
"You already have a SHIELD escort," she said as she wandered back in to where they were all gathering, eyes on the tablet in one hand and cup of coffee in the other. "No bugs showing up on the scan, so that's one less thing to worry about with the interview," she said, chipping in her own brand of advice. "We'll do the same to the reporter, make sure she is who she says she is, and then my part's done. You remember the answers if they ask you about SHIELD?" There was a nice little file, with options that handily ranged from 'I wouldn't know' to 'I'm afraid that's classified', and Maria's personal favorite, 'I am not at liberty to discuss'.
