Diana didn't often get a chance to be on her own. Especially not during the weekday. She was often so busy with her ambassadorial, charity and JLA work that time on her own was rare. But sometimes, Wanda would help her out not only by taking over duties, but also by ensuring she had a lunch hour or two blocked off. And for that, Diana was quite grateful to her friend.
It was warm, but not too warm. She sat down on a park bench, where a couple of pigeons and squirrels congregated just nearby. Animals usually sensed one who had a particular empathy with them, which Diana had been gifted with. She had brought a book with her (Cassie suggested to check out The Hunger Games), her lunch (a large Greek salad and eggplant and pear sandwich) and some crumbs for the park animals.
She was just about to open up her lunch bag when a little girl came running up to the bench and sat down at the opposite end. The girl was obviously in tears. Diana turned to her and asked: "What's wrong, dear?"
"I wanted to play pirates with the boys, but they said there are no girl pirates!!" The girl replied through snuffles. Diana handed her a tissue and waited until she was done wiping her face.
"That is sheer nonsense. They have clearly not heard of the great Ching Shih, a woman pirate who commanded a crew of nearly 80,000. Here, let me show you some skills to best them in battle and show them that women can be just as good as men." The little girl handed over her play sword and Diana showed her a few moves. She repeated them a few times until the girl had gotten them down and then the girl sprinted back off to show up the boys.
