The soft thump of books and the slight trembling of the table startled L.L. She instinctively looked at her large ice coffee (three cream, two sugar with an extra shot of expresso) to make sure she didn't lose any of it. Thankfully, the cover did its job well and all the sweet, delicious liquid was saved. She looked over to the other side of the table to see a boy busily flipping through a book on - she craned her chin somewhat to catch a glimpse of a passing photo - birds, it seemed. Her eyes moved to the pile of books resting next to him, spying the titles of a few that had their spines facing her.
What a weird variety of stuff, she thought to herself, then shrugged and moved her attention back to her tablet. The boy spoke to her shortly after, forcing her to put the book she was reading on hold yet again. She didn't particularly mind, though. She always preferred chatting over reading.
"Oh yeah, it's cool," she assured with a smile. When asked about her books, she pointed towards the tablet. "Here. Well, okay, I have a couple in my bag but those are boring books that I don't have to read 'til September. All the good stuff is on this." She glanced at the open book in front of him. "Did school give you a bunch of summer assignments too?"
