Re: Danny and Dinah and Open
As far as Danny was concerned, he was not at all trying to avoid Dinah so much as he had more or less just been casually floating around the charity event, talking now and then to people he knew. It was the same sort of behavior he exhibited at his company functions where he put up appearances to be courteous but was otherwise a million miles away. Especially right now there were much greater things on his mind than any lingering hurt feelings from a failed relationship.
So it was then that when Dinah approached and thanked him, he treated her with the same look as he had many of the others, as though he just scarcely recognized her before his face gradually softened and he nodded. He had not come or donated with any thought toward her personally, but accepted her warm thanks as well as the drink none the less.
"I saw a red headed girl walking around with an arm in a cast", he said coolly as he looked at Dinah. "She must owe someone a thank you note as well, hm?" He took a sip of the drink and stepped back a pace when someone crossed between them.
"Try not to make it a habit. Mia's a nice kid."
Where Danny might have gazed at Dinah and thought about what once was and could have been, there was instead a cold resolution and finality there that really had nothing to do with her at all. An expression most would not even see behind the facade of a smile he put on for those around them.
"It was nice seeing you, Dinah. Thank you for the drink." He gave her one of those smiles and threaded his way back into the fray.
