The construction made him feel fuzzy- as though a fog had come over him. It was hard to hear anything past the ringing in his ears, the hammering of nails, air compressors, and power tools. Aside from that, the dirt, sawdust, wood glue and the smell of men hard at work nearly had him gagging again and certainly didn't give him any warning to the two visitors. In fact, he only knew they were there from the knock at the door and wore a scowl, at his own incompetence rather than his guest.
Tapping his way to the door, Matt opened it and raised his head, taking a moment to try to discern who was at the door, but the smell of peanut oil and MSG and chlorophyll were overpowering. Matt made a face and cleared his throat briefly before inclining his head towards the street.
"Can we move down the steps..." He said before even greeting his guests. He still wasn't entirely certain who was standing next to him, due to the construction interference, but the Chinese was a big clue. "... Danny?" He guessed, then added politely, "And your... girlfriend?"
