Even though the trickster god was gone, his presence was still felt in the overwhelming pain that raced through every nerve of Billy's broken body. Though he would live, at that moment, he wanted to die. And though he would even eventually recover, at that moment, he could barely even scream, his own voice denying him a release from the torment.
Through the pain, he saw Ravager, the woman he'd passed by on the rooftops only days earlier. Her lips moved, but he could not make out her words through the shuddered breathing and rapid pounding of his heart in his ears. He could barely think at all, but he was at least able to think of safety. He didn't want to be on this dark rooftop, but rather somewhere that the pain could be eased. He needed help. He needed his mother.
The energy oozed pitifully around him, spilling over the woman that was still there. He felt the wind against him for a moment, and then sudden warmth as the cold concrete was replaced with climate controlled carpeting.
