Rose was an interesting personality, and he was far from used to her just yet. She had an aloof mannerism, making it a point to let others know she didn't want any closeness. Prickly. Max prickliness. He filled the kettle with more water, setting it on the stove to warm and selecting some loose leaf tea for the ceramic tea pot. Then he went to the mesh baskets, selecting a casaba melon, pomegranate, and a mango that was starting to fall far too much on the ripe side.
"Are you hungry?" It was a needless question, really, but a conversation opener. He was really testing to see what her level of crabbiness currently was. If it was still high, he would leave her alone. If not, maybe he could start getting past that field of grouchy static that seemed to surround the one-eyed young woman. He pulled out a large, smooth wooden bowl, the container of honey, a bit of ginger and a small bowl that he put mint tea leaves in, pouring a bit of hot water over them to soften. All precise motions that were neither hurried nor wasteful.
