WHO: Bruce Banner and Kitty Pryde!
WHERE: Out in NYC
WHEN: Saturday the 23
WHAT: They have a first date!
RATING: Light, G!
STATUS: log; complete.
Bruce worried at his lip for a moment, pausing in his walk to run his hands through his hair again, making sure there wasn’t a stray curl flying randomly up into the air. He wasn’t...used to this yet, this being casually stylish clothing and hair that had a whole different image than he was used to portraying to the world. It was all more...attention grabbing rather than a tool he used to hide away from the world. But, according to several people, it was time for him to stop hiding. He nervously chewed on his thumbnail for a moment, a habit he had been trying to break, and once he tasted nailpolish he remembered that he was, in fact, trying to break it, frowning at the black lacquer across his nail, wondering if he had managed to get some of it on his teeth. Shrugging it off, he instead slipped his hands into his jean pockets, aiming his walk towards the restaurant he was going to meet Kitty at, arriving a few minutes later at the door, glancing inside to see if he could see her, a peach rose resting in his hands courtesy of a street flower vender he had passed. -- Kitty came into the city semi-regularly, since she had friends and occasionally work to do there, but she always forgot how hectic it was until she walked off the train. Sometimes she wanted to just phase and walk through crowds until she got to a quieter spot, but that was bound to make her stand out. She was a little worried she could be late, but she high tailed it over to the restaurant and stopped down the street to catch her breath. And to try and use a nearby car's reflection to check how she looked. Bruce's comment about his clothing meant she paid a little more attention to what she was wearing, although she wasn't the fashionable sort, and heels only made her feet hate her. Instead she went with casual formal, with black pants and a nice blue top, although she was currently in a coat considering the weather. Brown hair was newly straightened, since it was a mass of curls otherwise, and she recognized Bruce from about halfway down the street. Teenage her would probably be freaking out at this point. Yes, she may have had a "crush for teacher" sort of thing for him in the past. He was handsome and brilliant and encouraged her studies, how could she not? Her admiration for him didn't change as she grew older and more mature. "Glad to see you're not flanked by Heckle and Jeckle," she teased to start out the conversation, approaching from behind him with a grin. -- Bruce turned, a touch of a smirk on his lips. “I threw a tech puzzle at them and ran the other way,” he teased, knowing that he was going to pay for that comment at a later date if Tony or Bruce heard about it. He offered her the flower, along with a soft, sweet smile. “You look wonderful,” he said, his eyes slowly taking her in, though he was quick enough in his look not to be considered creepy...for the most part. He couldn’t help himself. He had always found her attractive, both body and mind, though for most of their...relationship he had tried to ignore that fact. Unfortunately for him, she had been that type of girl that you couldn’t ignore...no matter how good it would be for your health and sanity. Or maybe that was lucky for him? -- Kitty laughed. "It's that easy to distract them? I'll be sure to bring something shiny the next time I'm around them. A laser pointer, maybe." If she was ever around them. That wasn't really her crowd, although she admired them both from a distance. For all her joking and manufactured confidence, she was just a big awkward nerd underneath. Which worked in this case, because so was Bruce. She took the flower and yes maybe blushed a little, ducking her head and pushing some of her hair behind her ear. "Thank you, so do you. They dressed you well." The two of them spent time together before in a lot more casual setting and wear, but that was then, and this was now. And she was glad for that. "Armani's got nothing on you." He was a handsome man, she always thought so. Intelligence was above and beyond the most attractive trait for her, so he was pretty much the Brad Pitt of her world. She smelled the flower, it was fresh from a vendor she could tell, and the orange color was unique. Kitty looked to the door and hesitated, not sure if she was supposed to let him open it or not but … she wasn't really the type of girl to worry about those details. So she grabbed the door and opened it, instead gesturing flamboyantly for him to go inside. With a little bow and everything. -- Bruce laughed, and smiled gratefully when she got the door. He didn’t mind being a gentleman, but he liked women who could hold their own, both in conversation and in life. Wallflowers bored him. He stepped inside, but politely waited for her to join him, holding up two fingers to the hostess. “They do have a fondness for shiny things,” he confirmed, before tilting his head as the hostess waited for them. “Shall we?” He lead the way again, simply by virtue of being closer to the woman then Kitty was, and took the opportunity to pull out his date’s chair, with his own bow and flourish to gently tease her. She always had a way of bringing out the side of him that was all smiles and laughter...something he appreciated on nights when both seemed scace. -- It was a good sign he didn't mind, because Kitty was a superhero, not a wilting flower. It was a back and forth thing, which was why she laughed when he pulled her chair out for her the same way. She sat down and winked at him. "Why thank you, good sir." It was starting out well, since this was an easy way to turn into something awkward, but they were still acting like themselves. She was quick to laugh and joke, at least partly because she used to be the youngest member of the X-Men. She was only thirteen when she went out on the field, and often served as the comic relief for everyone else. She worried at times it made people not take her seriously, but so far Kitty managed to balance that with being a good teacher for the kids at the mansion. "I wouldn't have pegged you for a Facebook addict. How long is it going to be before I start seeing you post cat articles from Buzzfeed?" Not that she was complaining, since Facebook was responsible for how they got to this point. -- “I will place all the blame for Facebook on the others...it was..helpful to keep in touch for a while, but you will never see me post something from buzzfeed, I much prefer Cracked for articles and icanhazcheezeburger for my cats,” he sat with a grin. “But if you happen to be into Cheville I will happily spam you with requests.” Then again, he wasn’t that big into Facebook, mostly using it as a boredom distraction and another method of getting a hold of those he needed to. And of course, it was an interesting way to study humanity, even if it did make him want to weep for the future some days. “What about you, why are you involved in it?” -- She couldn't help laughing at the image of Bruce sitting around bored, looking at ridiculous cat pictures on the internet. "I'm more of a Farmville girl. And Candy Crush. I've been known to inappropriately curse and throw my phone over Candy Crush." It often went along with Kitty declaring she was a computer genius, and it was ridiculous she couldn't whiz through all the levels easily. Only to come back to it, more determined than ever. "Because of my students, and it's an easy way to keep in contact with people. I know a lot of people on there who use fake names, not unlike a certain someone sitting across the table from me right now." Kitty used to work with SHIELD, and their agents weren't really supposed to exist. So fake identities were expected. She was a more public figure, at least in certain circles, and she preferred it that way. -- “Hopefully you don’t curse and throw your phone in class while playing it,” he said with a grin before holding up his hands in protest. “My name is perfectly valid, thank you..both of them.” It wasn’t his fault that military intelligence in the Hulk unit was slightly higher than an anthill and they could figure out how to search Facebook for “Bruce Banner”. Though, they apparently couldn’t figure out that both his public and his alias’ profile’s were connected, so maybe they were less intelligent than an anthill… “And at least I let you know this alias...it was amusing to watch you trying to track down the last one…” -- "Nah, I save that for in between breaks. And sometimes during tests, I'll walk out and pretend I'm checking on something. You only get five lives." She made a friends network too. Like him, she needed to put requests out. It was funny the website had that much thrall over anyone who used it. She resisted for a long time because of that. Too much to play with! Kitty grinned at him. "I would've found it on my own. I was zeroing in. It's a good thing SHIELD never asked me to do it. I would've said no, but I do like a challenge." She was nosy and liked to stick her nose where it didn't belong. Plus, he dropped off the face of the earth sometimes, to keep away from the military. She never wanted to be the reason that they'd get their hands on him. The waiter came up once they sat down and she ordered a water and Sprite. Kitty didn't drink often, not even on her twenty-first birthday. She liked keeping a cool head. "So what made you switch out pizza? Something a little different?" -- “You were zeroing in because I let you zero in,” Bruce teased, smiling at her. He looked up as the waiter came by, ordering a coke. While Bruce did enjoy beers on occasion, he had a large, green hangover to be cautious of and figured Kitty didn’t want that much excitement on their date. “No, I really don’t trust Tony,” he said with a shrug. “He is a brilliant, wonderful man who happens to be my best friend and scientific soulmate, but he occasionally gets ideas that are better left buried and follows through with them.” And while Bruce usually was happy to go along until whatever destruction lay before Tony, he wasn’t willing to do that tonight, with her. He liked Kitty too much. “Besides, the second date should always be pizza and bowling,” he said with a grin. -- Kitty scoffed at him, and if she wasn't on her best date behavior, she would've flicked a sugar packet at him. But no, she wasn't at Xavier's, and she wasn't having lunch with an old friend. She was having lunch with an old friend who she had warm fuzzy feelings for, so the sugar packet flicking would have to wait at least a few more dates. If there were more. Fingers crossed. "Hey, I'm SHIELD level hacker. Don't be so confident." Tony Stark was a legend … and he still had a reputation too for being erratic. Geniuses often were. Bruce was a much more grounded genius, more so than anyone she knew. "Scientific soulmate. I have yet to find my hacker soulmate. He or she or it has to be out there." Kitty had more than a few friends she valued as close as family. But they all had their own strengths. "Should I knock on wood that he isn't just late to showing up here? Maybe they'll show up sneaky style with hats and sunglasses on." She returned the grin. "Second date, huh? I just so happen to love bowling. I promise not to beg for the bumpers to be on." -- “Well then that’s a good thing...though, I like the bumpers,” he said with a grin, before opening his menu, turning his attention to the food and not how much he wanted to lean over the table to kiss her. |
