The curtain rose on the production of Antony and Cleopatra, and despite a few worries about set pieces, the entire show went very well. All the actors knew their lines and acted the parts with passion.
But the standout, at least amongst the murmuring from the crowd, were the costumes. Cleopatra was portrayed as a modern businesswoman, the sole ruler of her company, and dressed in stunning suits in the style of well known names. With each outfit, incorporated somewhere was a golden scarab.
Antony's clothes were much more casual, jeans mixed with t-shrits and sports coats, only donning a loosely worn striped tie at one point.
Finally Octavius Caesar was dressed in almost all three piece suits, each one a variation of grey, black, or warmed up to a brown.
There were audible gasps from the audience as Cleopatra made her final entrance, dressed in a stunning gown of gold and sheer The actress portraying the Queen now mingled with the crowd, still dressed in her "royal" garb.
Along the side, near the refreshments, Maxine was beaming at her handiwork helping herself to some punch.
