Re: Matt and Maria
"Least I don't look like an idiot," Maria muttered to herself as she wound her way along the carnival booths. Halloween was not her favorite holiday, with its emphasis on people in disguises and scaring and startling: she was, after all, a secret agents who was sometimes very quick on the draw.
The other reason she didn't really want to be here centered around Wayne being someone other than Wayne, but she'd been invited with Coulson, and it was probably good to make an appearance, if only because she'd accepted previous ones and being suddenly absent would be suspicious. It was just as well that Phil had an idea as to a costume, and she'd happily donned the black suit, the sunglasses, added the neutralizer, and together they were a pair of secret agents from a secretive government agency, protecting the world from knowledge they weren't ready for.
Almost normal except for the glasses, then. And that helped, along with the general nature of the costume. She was still herself.
Just herself as happened to be wandering around a carnival, vaguely wishing she could be anywhere else but here.
No one said she had to stop working; she caught a flash of red, and even with the costume, she recognized the lawyer. It helped that his costume was as low-key as hers. Which, she would happily presume, meant he was here working like her. Or at least willing to be distracted by work. She angled her steps over to him, and once she was close enough, said, "Mr. Murdock."
