Who: Wally West and all you people invited! When: September 28, 2013 Where: Wedding resort in New York. What: The Wedding! Rating: PG...? NPC's Linda, Bart, Lian, etc. ((ooc: Feel free to thread as you want in the following reception!))
The weather was perfect, seventy degrees with only a few sweeping clouds. The starting Autumn fit so well with the wedding colors, white with yellow, orange and red trims. The fountain had floating lily's and red and yellow flowers in it, The smell of blossoms, freshly trimmed grass, and the leaves starting to turn only enhanced the scenery and decor of the outside arch where two people were going to state their vows.
The guests were seated easily by the expert staff, everyone guided to sign into the guest book, where to go for dressing rooms, water, where to set any presents they wished to drop off. It was far out of the way here from the city's usual noisy buzz, and there was not a sign of a snooping reporter anywhere to be had. Then Wally made his nervous way up to the front and guests started to settle fully. The music shift to the starting tinkling notes of a piano and cello version of "Clocks" as the mothers of the bride and groom were seated.
Then the procession truly started. Roy Harper and Lois Lane-Kent stepped down the aisle, looking graceful in his suit and her full-length dress. Next came Bart with the ring, and he managed to step down the aisle, with an obvious amount of concentration, at a normal pace, counting to himself. Then came Lian in her dress. She had no trouble scattering the flower petals at all, orange and red littering the floor. But then when she got to the end, she was unsure what to do with the petals remaining, so scattered them all at the front. Looking briefly at her now empty basket, she ran to her dad and handed it to him happily before running across to stand by Lois, much to the delighted chuckle of the crowd.
Then the music changed again, the violins smoothly playing "Canon in D", and all rose as Linda entered on her father's arm.
Wally stopped breathing for a few seconds. Linda had hidden the dress from him, so this was the first he was seeing it. It hugged to her slim form perfectly, its simplicity only enhancing. She had flowers in her dark hair and flowers on the hem, and a radiant smile on her face. Wally felt a nudge, and gasped in a breath, then looked thankfully to Roy before his eyes fixed back on his approaching bride.
It took an eternity and no time at all, and she was standing in front of him with her bouquet, smiling at him through the veil. Wally felt his mouth become dry, and he tried to focus on words being said from the officiant, but things had become a weird, slow buzz as the music faded. The nervousness that had started to build after breakfast seemed to be paralyzing him, yet he felt like he was going to shake apart from the inside out. Suddenly he knew he was going to mess this up horribly. Beyond a doubt. Linda deserved perfect, and he couldn't remember his vows, mind racing at lightspeed trying to recall what he was supposed to say or do.
Linda noticed. She leaned forward, voice quiet. "Wally, you're vibrating."
"S-s-sorry."
"You okay?" Her whisper was dubious.
"Yeah!" he whispered back. Or gawd, he hoped he was whispering as the officiant continued speaking.
Linda studied him, then suddenly sighed, pulling back and handing her flowers to Lois. "Okay. Hold on," she said clearly.
Wally thought the bottom of the world was dropping from under him as the officiant stopped and looked at them in confusion. Hold on?
Linda lift her veil so she could look at him better, index finger up. "You've been acting weird all morning, ever since your dad showed up. Start talking."
"Now?" Wally looked at her, absolutely incredulous. They were standing in front of the altar outside and she wanted to talk this out now?
"Now," Linda confirmed firmly. "Talk. What's wrong?"
"I... stuff... Don't know!"
"You don't know what's wrong?"
"Not really!"
"But there is something wrong."
"No--Yes! Yes, but I don't... Linda--people! Watching!"
"Ignore them!" She stepped closer, finger on his chest. His subtle vibrations stopped, feeling the steadiness of it. "Look, I know you said you can't wait to be married to me. I figured you would, but I want to know if there are other reasons now. Is there more to it?"
"I--maybe?"
"Are you scared of getting married?"
"Yes!"
"Which part, the ceremony or the being married?"
"Both!"
"Are you having second thoughts, then?"
"No!"
"Then tell me with all honesty that you're not marrying me so soon just to be sure you don't chicken out of it entirely or as some weird mid-life crisis."
"I..." Wait. He wanted to think about that. He frowned, brows lower and eying the sky. "No. I don't think that's it."
"Then why are you acting so off?"
"Well, because--I... I want things... I don't know how to..." He trailed off, frowning.
"Is it that you're so scared you'll mess this up?"
"Yes? But I-."
"Are you pushing through with this just to try and prove to yourself you're different?" "No." "That you're not going to repeat another person's mistakes?" "No." "This is about you, making you feel better if you can pull it off and I'm just along for the ride?" "No! Listen!"
Wally stepped up, hands finding her shoulder and warm cheek. "I do worry I'm going to mess things up, but you, you also make me feel like anything can work out for the better! So you're absolutely right. That probably was worrying me when I asked for the date to change." He started smiling, things falling into place mentally and heart-wise for him. "But you were also right the first time. I can't wait to be married to you! I tasted life without you and I'm not doing that again! Everything you learned about having fun, you learned from me! Everything I learned about being a grown-up, I learned from you, Linda..."He took a deep breath, feeling calm now. "I cannot wait to see what we teach each other over the next sixty years. I have no other wish than to devote the rest of my life to knowing you."
Linda was quiet, gazing back at him. The guests were quiet. Even Bart was quiet, staring with wide eyes. Then suddenly Linda snapped her fingers, looking to the officiant. "I do!"
The surprised officiant blinked. "What?"
"You heard me!" Linda said, smiling brightly. "He takes me! I take him! You know the drill. Come on! Let's go!" She turned to Wally, their hands finding each other naturally as they beamed at each other.
The officiant smiled. "Very well. Wallace West and Linda Park.. I now pronounce you husband and wife!" He was about to add "You may kiss the bride" but it would have been out of place, seeing as the bride and groom were already in the middle of a long deep, breathless kiss.
They broke apart with a small laugh, and suddenly Wally was very much himself, hugging Linda close with one arm and pointing enthusiastically toward the hall where staff was scrambling to open doors and guide people after the shorter-than-expected ceremony. "To the reception!"
As everyone else clapped, whistled, cheered or a variety of all three as they left their seats and music started playing, Bart looked around in confusion. "So when do I give them the rings?"
