"My friends, it seems we hath come to the end of our quest," Thor said as he stood on the hill and studied the pendant; held tightly in his fist, the cord was almost parallel to the ground as the carved hammer - the image of Mjolnir, and from the same metal so that like would call to like - hovered in front of him, pulling him on. The journey had begun with it lying quiet in his hand, with only a tug and a point to guide him, but now it strained at its tether as they drew closer.
"Ne'er would I found this place, e'en if I searched all the days of my long life," he said quietly. The New Mexico desert was stark sand and scrub around him, rolling hills hiding deep valleys. The hammer was, while not nearly as small as the pendant, small enough that he would have to search carefully. If it had fallen to earth, perhaps it would leave visible marks, but he knew well that it was within the power Odin wielded to place it on Midgard without disturbing a mote of dust. "Verily, I owe thee much, and should tee be in need of a boon, if it be in my power, I shalt grant it."
There was, however, the small problem of the sprawling complex along one half of the valley, all temporary white plastic walls and tents, but with enough dust covering them to make him think that it had been here for a long time, and with enough coming and going to make him wary of approaching. Looking down at the pendant again, he frowned: it was pointing just off the side of the complex, but was that just the distance? How likely was it that someone else had found the hammer before him? though, if they had, was it not reasonable that they would gather around it? "Wanda, canst thou determine if that light base contains our goal?" he asked.
