Who: Professor Charles Xavier, and Open
Where: Xavier Institute
When: August 28, 2013
What: It's a quiet afternoon at the mansion.
Rating: Pg
The panic that had kept tensions so high before Summer started had been replaced with a lull. The students were settling into their schedule, and while the school was now more public than ever, most of the students learned that didn't mean they were going to be raided and arrested--not with Luthor put away, anyhow. Xavier himself had been interviewed several times, now openly a mutant headmaster, and the results were not as terrible as some might have feared.
There was still a great deal of work to do, however. For every openly supporting sentiment, he often sensed a number of misgivings and prejudice from others. America still struggled with the prejudices the previous generation had bestowed on the current, and the fears of the youngest generation only exacerbated situations. It would take time and dedicated work for years and yet another generation to heal the gap caused by fear and hatred.
There was also still the matter that some mutants were scarred from having been incarcerated during the mutant registration act. Some of the things they had been put through was going to take years of therapy, so the amount of time he spent counseling and binding those mental and emotional wounds had tripled. If they were fortunate, they would heal and not blame the entirety of humanity for their maltreatment. If not...
But for now the school was enjoying a peaceful afternoon, students doing homework and after-curricular activities. Xavier sipped his tea, letting the mental thoughts wash over him briefly before restoring some of his mental shields to muffle the noise. Yes... All would be well. He was ever the optimist, after all.
