It was a decidedly bad idea to try to run crime out of Hell's Kitchen and it was Daredevil's job to make sure that anyone who forgot that lesson was hit with a painful reminder. It wasn't just petty crime that concerned him- though he tried to step in there whenever he had the chance- but rather the organized crime. Organized crime kept the venomous blood of the underworld of Hell's Kitchen circulating and thriving, a heart beating fear, oppression and hatred throughout the Manhattan neighborhood. Cut out the heart and the poison would stop flowing. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done, and more of a long term goal rather than the work of an evening.
It was with this goal in mind that Daredevil had done nothing when a woman was robbed just below him where he crouched on the roof, hidden in shadow from the glare of the streetlights below. She did a good job, her screams were nearly real and there was a certain anxiety to her- but it wasn't the stench of fear on her, and her heart never made the triple flips and erratic beats that would accompany someone who was fighting for their life.
No, this was bait they were trying to dangle in front of his nose. They were trying to draw him out- away from whatever real crime they were planning. The real question was what- and where- was the actual job.
Dashing off the opposite roof edge, Daredevil went into a free fall, catching himself on ledge of the building on the other side of the alley and springing himself up into a handstand to flip fully onto the roof top as he started to wind his away around the perimeter of Hell's Kitchen- right where it began to bleed into Manhattan proper- keeping his attention on the criminal element that scurried below like ants. One of them knew what was going down-- he just had to find the right one, and put the fear of the Devil in them.
