/Ah, you know my personal ethics prevent such a thing./ But that was said with a touch of doubt in the background that Manchester, with his skill, could easily pick up. There was a point where moral had to be compromised to save lives, and Xavier was never comfortable in his attempt to find that line. The ends simply did not justify the means in his eyes.
There was a pause at that, consideration and guesses flitting about in his mind, but none that he actively shared, and respectively did not query after. With Manchester it could have been a number of things, from disrespect of authority, to the job losing its charm, to them trying to force him to follow an order her just flat out didn't agree with. One thing was fairly certain--it was hard to make Manchester do anything he didn't want to.
"So now you have free time to pursue what you want."
/No doubt./ Though Charles really wished his former student would resist a bit from digging in other people's heads. Doing so as a job gave it a little more justification, seeing as he wasn't doing so for spite or personal gain. And as Professor Xavier well knew, sometimes it was harder not to hear thoughts. /So now they have lost one of their finest operatives, and that's likely for the best concerning your health. Will they be upset at your severance of your relationship?/ Sometimes with such branches, retirement was not so easily gained.
