Jaime had never had so many people get his name wrong in one day. Come to think of it, more people had gotten his name wrong today, than they had on any of his first days in his entire life. It was all about location, he guessed. But it was the end of a long day, the last class, and Jaime barely found the energy to politely correct Mrs. Channing as he took his seat.
Moving to a new city had a lot of pros and cons, and starting a new school rated high in the 'con' category. What made it worse was that they had chosen to go before the end of the school year, so Jaime was spending his last month of Junior year in a place where he knew absolutely no one and was probably going to fail all of the tests.
At least he got pretty decent grades, and science had been something he'd done well in, even before he'd got the scarab and since then, he'd gotten better. Hopefully, his practical application would continue to prove useful.
There was something in the look Mrs. Channing gave the redhead she seated Jaime next to, but he ignored it and shook the kid's hand. "Jaime," he said, keeping his voice low. "Nice to meet you." He looked around the room - up at the board and around at all the desks. "So, what are we doing?"
