"Oh." He said quietly, poking at the pancakes and not quite looking at her.
He knew what this was. Bart had seen enough high school dramas on TV to know what happened when half of a couple went off to college and the other half... didn't. It didn't matter that they could move faster than any other people on the planet (probably, maybe), things wouldn't be the same.
And he liked Kara. He liked her a lot... but that wasn't going to keep things the same either. And trying to keep things the same was just going to make it worse. Just because he was stuck with his feet on the ground didn't mean that she shouldn't get the chance to fly.
And he shouldn't make her say it. He liked and respected her more than to make her say it. "Maybe... you know... with school and the distance and all... maybe it would be better if we... you know..." He swallowed hard and glanced at her from under his hair, "... weren't together anymore."
It hurt. It hurt a lot to say; but the last thing he wanted to do was hold her back and drag her down.
