He settled on the edge of the roof, and just like that, she had a hard time picking him out from the shadows even though she knew he was there. It made her edgy, and in principle as much as at the moment; anywhere she went in the city, she wouldn't know if he was watching.
Yeah, she saw where people wouldn't be sure if he was actually real or not. But she knew that he was, and she was making notes on what to include in her report. There was no point in trying to guess identities, the way the celebrity press had started to; it would serve them little purpose at the moment, when powers or other abilities and patrol routes were still in question.
She couldn't help the glance towards the water, the bulk of the Helicarrier just in sight, as she said, "If I thought it was that simple I wouldn't be here doing recon." But it was never as simple as bombing a district and flooding the streets with boots and guns. "But we're going to do the job."
What did she want from him? They had only thought to confirm his existence, and figure out the answer to that after they'd gathered some facts. She had the first, but only scanty amounts of the seconds, and so for once she considered her answer carefully. "Coordination," she finally said. "You don't have to work for us as an agent, but you're damn well going to work with agents."
