The Big Surprise (Open to All)
It was a gamble of course, but Danny knew that from the beginning. There were just some risks worth taking, like trying to somehow surprise the girl that he was dating with a birthday bash. Who happened to be all about the detective business. In her own city. He played it cool like he always did with his usual Zen attitude, but as he pulled around to drop his car off with a valet before the Ellsworth building, he was almost certain that she knew something was up. Whether it helped or hindered him that he had not at any point acknowledged that he realized it was her birthday he could not have said, but he imagined it would go fairly well either way. Unless of course he discovered that Dinah hated surprises.
Because that would totally suck.
As he walked around the car to open the door for Dinah though, he was just happy to be out with her. No matter what happened. Groping Presidents and avalanches, be damned.
Danny took Dinah's hand, kissed it, and lead her inside. As they walked he knew that she was suspicious, but at the same time he knew his plan had at least some measure of success, if only because this was a skyscraper and he was fairly certain that she did not know the layout of every single floor. At least, he hoped. Once they were in the elevator his mind wandered but not too far if only because he knew what lay ahead of them. Though the thought was still tempting, with each look he cast her way.
“We're almost there. Good food. Music. Entertainment. Should be a great night.” He squeezed her hand. When the elevator doors opened, he shifted his arm around her waist and in the most subtle of ways, positioned them so that she stepped out just before him, into the trap.
(Feel feel to surprise the old Canary once she sticks her beak through the door!)
