Barbara knew she wasn't acting like herself--or rather that she was acting like herself on her worst days. She was hurting and angry, but she was keeping a tight grip on her emotions and avoiding outside contact wherever possible. Instead, she threw herself into her work as Oracle, once more picking up the case of the mystery hacker from December--a case which hadn't gone entirely cold. She clacked away at the keyboard, working even as her mind wandered back to the past few days. Her doctor had sent her to the hospital for tests and overnight observation. They hadn't been able to find a conclusive cause for her relapse beyond a possible swelling in her spine normally associated with an infection they were sure she did not have. Until they identified what was wrong, they could not choose a course of treatment, and so she was set up with a series of follow up appointments and sent on her way.
She wasn't going to walk again. She made her peace with that. Having hope, given the circumstances, was only going to do more harm than good, so she pushed hope aside in favor of pragmatism. She could still do good from the chair. She could take down a man who had tried to kill a good portion of the superhuman population, ruining the lives of innocent, weak-minded civilians to do so. The last trace of him she'd gotten was from Belgium. She wondered if it wouldn't be smart to pick up the interface helmet she and Ted had made once more. It made her head hurt, but she always felt like it was easier to get closer to 'iseetheend' with it on. Maybe it was like he told her the last time they spoke--the decisive factor was risk vs reward.
