Already, Sue was looking forward to the end of the day, when she could take Franklin home. In spite of being a doctor, or maybe because she was one, she'd never been a very good patient. She'd never been very good at just sitting around and waiting for someone else to tell her it was okay for her to do something or go somewhere. She also knew that the longer you stayed in a hospital, the greater chance you had or getting sick or contracting an infection.
Babies were especially vulnerable. Sue thanked God Franklin had been a low-risk birth; he wouldn't need to spend any unnecessary time in the hospital, and she prayed he never would. He was healthy. That was all she could ask for -- and she vowed he would have a happy life.
Sue never believed in love at first sight until Franklin was born. She'd always been something of skeptic. But some things defied explanation. She couldn't explain how he was familiar to her from the very first moment she laid eyes on him. He was only a day old, and already she loved him more than anything else in universe.
In between waking up and wanting to be fed, Franklin had a brief period of genuine alertness. A few lucky visitors got a chance to meet Franklin that way, if their timing was right. But mostly it was about luck; Ben Grimm (ever lovin' and blue eyed) stood guard. Like a bouncer, he made sure that no one got into the room without approval. No press (alright, there were exceptions to that rule). But absolutely no paparazzi.
