Who: Kate Bishop & Tommy Shepherd
Where: High End NY Night Club
When: Backdated to March 30th.
What: Kate meets Tommy while out for drinks.
Rating: PG-13.
It was getting late, not that it mattered to Kate. She’d been sneaking out night after night without her father’s notice. He would most likely have a more violent reaction to her going out to fight crime than the underage drinking she was currently participating in. Then again, this kind of behavior was just expected of a girl her age and social standing. She wasn’t sure what she’d been drinking, but her body was warm and she felt like she was floating in a warm sea of music. She trusted her friends and was lucid enough to make sure that they were the ones giving the drinks to her. The beverages were tasty and effective, and that’s all that mattered. The only real problem was the fact that she’d been sitting at the bar all night. The girl wasn’t in the mood to wade out onto the dance floor at all. Instead, she nursed her third drink, making sure to keep her hand over the top when she wasn’t bringing it to her lips. Kate was supposed to be relaxing and having a night out with her school friends, but she would’ve felt a lot better about herself and much more comfortable if she was out on the street doing something constructive. In the back of her mind, she could hear her therapist telling her that she needed to take some time out for herself and relax. If only it was working like it was supposed to. ---- Tommy had been at the club for a few hours. It was the third one he'd been to that night but the only one that had been playing halfway decent music. It had a dress code that bordered on pretentious but since most of the girls seemed to be wearing ultra short dresses or mini skirts, Tommy decided it wasn't a completely bad thing. And since the bartenders didn't water down the drinks, Tommy had pretty much decided to stay until closing. He'd finished his last beer at least six songs ago and since the blonde he'd been dancing with had been dragged away by her killjoy friends, Tommy figured it was time for a refill. He stepped up to the bar, right behind a pretty brunette and a redhead with long hair, then frowned as he spotted the bartender all the way at the other end. "Hey," he called out, waving a hand to get attention. The man looked up, nodded in acknowledgement even as he rolled his eyes, then turned away, continuing to serve the customers in front of him. Tommy let out a slight groan. "Come on, man. Sometime today?" ---- Kate wasn't here to pick up guys, but she did notice the one behind her. She also noticed he was rather impatient with the way he was attempting to flag down the bartender. Lifting a hand when the guy finally looked over again, she pointed down at her drink. He moved away from the people in front of him and over to where she sat and refilled her glass. She pointed over toward the white-haired boy's glass as well to signify that he was to get a drink as well. Maybe she wasn't looking to hook up, but that didn't mean she couldn't have a momentary distraction. She watched as the bartender filled the boy's glass and took in the rest of him with an interested glance. Much like the rest of the girls, she was wearing a dress with a very short skirt and boots up to knees. Her hair was pulled back, because it was hot despite the air conditioning. "Hi," she said shifting the way she sat so that she faced him. He owed her some conversation, at least. ---- Tommy had been caught momentarily off guard by Kate's help but he recovered pretty quickly. He fished out his wallet, gestured to both drinks and paid the tab. He dropped a few bills on the bar for a tip more out of habit than appreciation. Drink in hand, Tommy took a long sip while he looked Kate up and down in what he thought was a discreet manner. She was far too pretty to be the safety friend and she was obviously drinking so she wasn't the designated driver. A party girl taking five from all the wild dancing? A bar bunny who wanted conversation? Either way, she was definitely worth a minute of his time. Or five. Or even more. "Hey," he said in return. "Thanks for that. I owe you one." ---- Kate watched as Tommy dropped the bills on the table. He wasn't running a tab like she was, but hers was on someone else completely. If he wanted to cover it, she wasn't going to argue. "Since you paid, I'd say we're even," she said with a smile. The music wasn't unbearably loud, so she didn't have to yell at him, which was good. Instead, she just smiled a languid smile as he checked her out. It definitely wasn't as discreet as he thought it had been. It was almost cute. That could've been the alcohol talking. "I don't think I've seen you here before." ---- "I get around," said Tommy with a smile that was almost a smirk. He made a mental note to get the name of the club before he left. Next to them, the redheaded girl waved suddenly, grabbed her purse and slid off her chair. In moments, she had disappeared into the crowd, presumably to join friends. Tommy wasted no time helping himself to the open seat. "You come here often?" he asked, before the stupidity of the statement caught up with him. Well, no shit sherlock. She pretty much just said that. "I mean, you're a regular?" he added, trying to clarify and failing. Maybe he'd be better off trying to pick up girls on the dance floor. ---- Well, the guy sitting across from her wasn't lacking in confidence, even if he did use a weak pick-up line. He did try to save it at least. "Once in a while," she answered truthfully. She would admit, the attention didn't hurt. He bought her a drink and was actually speaking to her. He hadn't asked her anything really stupid or offensive just yet. So far, everything seemed safe. So she moved on to the next logical step. "Kate." He didn't ask or offer his name, but it was more of subtly directing him, than an introduction. |
