Barda had cooked again. This was probably all the information necessary to glean that dinner had been a sordid affair but the facts were that she'd managed to ruin yet another pan in her attempts for the evening and nearly put a dent in the countertop when she could not quite get her brownies properly out of the pan. Perhaps she'd used too many eggs? Or not enough breadcrumbs? She'd simply have to try again next time. The good thing about Barda was that she continued to be largely undeterred by smoke alarms, broken cookery, and the occasional unhappy face from Oberon. After dinner (and with the dishes soaking in the sink before they were 'prepared' for the dishwaster), Barda was winding down with a cup of coffee and some of the little black and white cookies that had come from the local deli. At least someone had thought ahead when it came to sweets in the house when she'd mentioned baking that evening. She could, surprisingly, manage coffee. She was good at it and had made a pot after dinner, mulling over the mug (with two teaspoons of sugar added into it) and standing thoughtfully in the kitchen while Oberon puttered around the living room, working on some project for one of Sott's shows, no doubt. She'd been quiet lately - or at least more quiet than usual - and had spent a lot of her time in the last few weeks away from the apartment. In fact, it had started when the parademons had originally attacked, leaving them more vulnerable here on Earth than she would have liked. It was obvious that Apokolips wasn't as easy to escape as Scott have originally thought. But now Scott wasn't the only one in the line of fire and Barda was more conflicted about that then she was willing to talk about. Something had been bothering her for a while when it came to the entire situation. A number of things, really. And she turned her attention to Scott when he came into the kitchen, watching him with a certain level of curiosity and aloofness that had been present more in the last few weeks. "What are you going to do about the show?" It wasn't entirely the question that she wanted to ask but it was the one on the forefront right then. |
