Susan Richards would readily admit that pregnancy had its advantages. Like convincing your husband to attend a concert he wouldn't normally attend. Sue had discovered that the closer her due got, the more readily Reed (and Johnny and Ben) agreed to whatever she wanted to do. She wasn't afraid to use that to her advantage sometimes.
Date nights were important.
Susan Richards knew that soon those date nights would be replaced with sleepless nights. That made these date nights even more important to her. These were their last chance to be alone as a couple for a long time--unless they called on a babysitter.
The American Songbook ran from January 30 to April 20th. Sue gotten tickets for opening night from the promoters in part because it was the fifteenth anniversary--celebrity exposure never hurt an event in the press--and because she'd attended other concerts in years past. Sue loved that the American Songbook concerts were intimate and relaxed. It was so much nicer that way.
So much easier to actually enjoy the experience. And she was. Lea Solonga had such a beautiful voice.
Sue's attention was torn away from the performance when she happened to glance over at her loving, attentive husband sitting slumped over in the seat beside her. He'd fallen asleep. How could Reed fall asleep?! They were on a date. One of the last dates they would ever get to have as a childless couple! And he'd fallen asleep!
Sue fumed. She knew this event wasn't up Reed's alley, but... she'd wanted to come, damn it. That should have been enough of a reason for him to stay awake.
"Reed!" she hissed. "Wake up!"
If he didn't wake up, she was going to shove him. Hard.
Sue was definitely going to teach their son that was not okay to fall asleep in the middle of a date.
