Re: SHIELD + Avengers
There was a moment when the sirens were blaring and the Helicarrier was locking down, just as everyone settled into their appointed tasks, as the drones were being launched and a Quinjet prepped, that Maria almost felt as though she was back in Iraq. And for the first time, it was with quiet relief: this was now a war zone. She knew what she was doing in a war zone. She was no Navy commander used to standing on the bridge and issuing orders at a distant target, but she was used to the frenzy, the overlapping commands, the immediate need to assess and secure the battlefield.
"Objective is to secure the prison," she confirmed, "contain the prisoners - in their cells or on the Raft - and restore power. Get it operational as a prison."
As for the how, well, that was what the drones and the recon before. "War Machine, get boots on the ground," she began, and then scowled as Rogers shouted over her order with his own. "Command to War Machine," she repeated, firm rather than loud, "Get me intel." The drones were in the air, but so was he, and he had the armor to withstand an immediate attack on the ground.
Camera feeds from the drones flickered onto the screens - with a little wobble, that made her sigh when the cause swung into view. Goddamn Spider-Man. Spider-Men. Then feed from War Machine came through, along with his assessment. "War Machine, this is command. Orders are to evacuate the wounded and contain the prisoners on the Raft. Deputize the Spider-Men and anyone else who shows up; we're going to need all the coordinated assistance we can get. I have Captain Rogers in the air, ETA three minutes. He has command. Maximum force is authorized if under assault." No one wanted a massacre, but if they were attacked, she fully expected them to defend themselves. "Containment is the primary objective.
"A construction team is being assembled to troubleshoot and restore the power," she continued once the leader of the techs reported into her ear. "They won't move until the area is secure." Because no one wanted dead techs: she needed them to keep her boat flying.
