The focus on the nation (and much of the rest of the world) had been pulled to its capital city on this day. The future President of the United States of America was taking the stage at his inauguration ceremony and preparing to speak.
"My fellow Americans,
To call this occasion auspicious is to undercut its significance. I stand before you, where forty-four men have stood before, prepared to represent one of the greatest nations in the world. There is much that has changed about this country, and this world during each of their terms. And today, we stand together, united under liberty.
But we are not united, America. We have be pulled apart by our differences, pulled away from the camerade that our forefathers saw in each other at our nation's birth. The time is now to be united once more. United in freedom, equality and the betterment of mankind.
We are closely watched by other countries. What we do and say is discussed around the world by the minute. And that is why I now address all of you. American and non-American. I address The People.
We the People, we view ourselves as the most superior race on this planet. We have mastered air and space, sea and land, and the matter that forms all of it. And well tell ourselves that we are at our fullest potential. But I disagree.
I am a man of progress, and I'm a man of vision. And I have seen, with a heavy heart, as the people of this planet allow for the toleration and acceptance of what passes for progress. We've stopped reaching and we've come instead to a plateau of making do.
But no more. We The People will instead once again reach to our fullest potential, together. We will stop letting others around us change the world and make it better. We will make it better for ourselves. This nation's forefathers did not ask another country for their freedoms. No. They took what they believed to be their fullest potential and sought after their victory themselves. This vision, this drive, this is what the people of this planet are missing.
We must be our own heroes, and take back the responsibility that we lost over the years.
Tomorrow, I will begin to fulfill the promises that I have made during the last year's campaign. You have brought me this far, and to my victory, and it is the least that I can do. But when have I settled for least? I will not, and neither should you.
We will see change, and for the better of The People. There will be better education, better employment opportunity, and better representation of what this nation is capable of. We will be equal again in our potential, no matter what creed, custom, gender, race, or sexuality. I have faith. And I thank you for yours in me as I am sworn into office.
